Headquartered in Spring, Texas, Stratton Development & Construction LLC is a full-service design-build general contractor that works primarily in the greater Houston area. Over the last 10 years, the business has completed numerous projects in the commercial and industrial sectors. In addition to providing general contracting services for retail, office, manufacturing, laboratory and hospitality facilities, Stratton has completed multiple industrial parks, handling every bit of the project in-house, from the clearing of the land to the punch-out of the last building.
Founded in 2010 by Casey Butaud, Stratton has stood out in the industry by adding a personal touch to every project. “We’ve started adding design features that haven’t regularly been done on the industrial side of construction before,” says Butaud. “Aesthetically, we’ve made industrial complexes more pleasing to the eye than the standard generic design.”
A niche market
When Butaud established Stratton, he saw a niche market with the oil industry in the state of Texas. By capitalizing on the industry, the company has seen substantial growth. Currently Stratton has 10 employees and has been able to establish itself as a leading contractor without the aid of investors. “I like control of the company to be completely in our hands,” says Butaud.
Stratton has evolved to offer customers a multitude of services including site analysis, warehouse buildings, full-service construction, leasing, renovation, remodeling and design-build construction, as well as office interior build-outs. Whether it’s from the ground up or an addition to an existing building, Stratton is able to provide decades of industry experience to each project it takes on.
When it comes to the overall planning, coordination and control of a project from inception to completion, Stratton’s construction management service is aimed at meeting its client’s requirements in order to produce a functionally and financially viable project that will be completed on time, within budget and to the required quality standards. “As a construction manager, we align our interests with interests of the client,” says Butaud. “We become both adviser and contractor by integrating the project planning, design and construction phases of each project.” By maintaining an efficient workflow, Stratton is able to assure on-time decision- making and establishes a working relationship between all entities involved in the project.
Recent projects that Stratton has been involved in have included a an office and warehouse space for Swagelok, a privately held international company that focuses on the manufacture and sale of gas and fluid systems components, such as tube fittings, valves, tubing and gauges.
Butaud says that one of the more notable projects the company completed was a 23,000-square-foot building for an Italian company called Inplast that produces turf pads and turf materials that are used in athletic facilities and equipment to prevent concussions. “I really enjoyed building the facility for Inplast,” says Butaud. “They were a great company to work with and it was really interesting to see how their product is made.”
Communication equals success
As a construction management firm, Butaud says that some of the biggest challenges Stratton faces is remaining current with permit regulations through the City of Houston. In order to keep abreast of all regulatory issues, Stratton maintains strong communication with all of its subcontractors, architects and city councilmen to stay current and be able to deliver a product that its clients are happy with. “We ask as many questions as we can to stay on top of it,” says Butaud. “You have to pay attention to things like that because they affect your day-to-day operations. We communicate with the Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA) as well as the Houston Contractors Association (HCA).”
Butaud began his career as a real estate broker in 1999. He made the transition into construction development through his own projects with his real estate firm. “I have always taken gradual steps in building this company,” says Butaud. “By not transitioning into anything too quickly, we have been able to build solid expertise in our field.”
Butaud says that the responsibility he has to his employees and their families is his biggest motivation for the continued success of his company. “I also just really enjoy what we do,” he adds. “I’m passionate about real estate, construction and development. It’s a bigger plan than just me making money. It’s all about the success of the people that work here and the people that work with us.”
With a strong market in Houston, Stratton will remain on its current path. The company will maintain steady growth with land acquisitions and development opportunities. As Stratton Development & Construction LLC moves forward, the company will deliver the quality and personal touch that has made it so successful.
