Silverado Crossing – Journeyman Construction Inc.
According to those in the industry, by all indicators, new home starts are on the rebound. In Buda, Texas -a suburb just a few miles south of the state’s capital city of Austin – the high-end multifamily housing market is doing even better than that; it is booming. A long history of success rooted in the drive and professional know-how of Sam Kamur, president of Journeyman Construction Inc. (Journeyman), is ensuring the company takes advantage of the upturn. Journeyman is the lead on-site general contractor for the development of a $24 million, luxury multifamily community boasting a long list of amenities, finishes and services: Silverado Crossing.
“The Austin multifamily market is as busy as we have ever seen it,” says John Kinnard, project manager on the development for Journeyman. “The Silverado Crossing complex, comprised of 300 luxury apartments housed in 13 low-rise, low-density [three-story] buildings, is quickly being leased out; people are in line, waiting to move in. It feels like we’re back to where things were in 2004 with the market really turning around in this area.”
Kinnard, who recently joined the Journeyman team, has quickly learned the company culture and its dedication to quality, which are just some of the reasons Journeyman won the Silverado Crossing bid. “I’ve been in the field for about seven years,” Kinnard says. “I started out doing government jobs, but I joined Journeyman because I really enjoy managing multifamily projects. Journeyman is a diverse general contractor, and we are a standout in the residential market.”
Texas’ Go-to GC
Journeyman was founded in 1996 and has quickly grown to be a major player in Texas’ construction industry with offices in Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, Corpus Christi and McAllen. Kumar has assembled a distinguished staff of expert design, construction and support personnel to ensure success. Over the past 15 years, the company has earned its place as No. 58 in regards to the largest construction firm in the state. Journeyman was also named by Entrepreneur magazine as one of the 100 fastest-growing construction firms in the U.S. in 2011.
Journeyman is headquartered in Austin, Texas, with 110 employees spread across its five offices statewide. The Journeyman team combines decades of experience in the design-build process of various projects, including facilities for higher learning, retail shopping centers, office complexes, medical buildings, hotels, condominiums, multifamily residential communities, municipal buildings, transportation, parks and recreation facilities; the company’s project portfolio is diverse.
Kinnard and his Journeyman team broke ground on Silverado Crossing in mid-summer 2012 in cooperation with Austin-based developer JCI Residential headed by former Architect Kurt Goll. “We’ve reached key milestones by completing a building-per-phase and we are on schedule for completion by the end of August 2013,” Kinnard says. “Staying on schedule is critical to any project, especially in the case of Silverado Crossing, because many of these luxury apartments are already leased.”
The perks of living at Silverado Crossing include a home within walking distance to grocery stores, retail shopping and some of the area’s best restaurants. Located 15 minutes from downtown Austin and Texas State University, the community also offers easy access to IH-35 and the area’s award-winning Hays County Schools.
Buda has been dubbed the “Outdoor Living Capital of Texas,” and residents of Silverado Crossing can look forward to experiencing the best of Central Texas outdoor living with a resort-style pool, spa, clubhouse, pet-friendly grounds and dog watering stations. Silverado Crossing also features a large, well-appointed fitness center and movie theater on-site.
No detail, finish or amenity is spared on the impressive homes that Silverado Crossing offers. Each one-, two- or three-bedroom home includes nine-foot ceilings with large oval garden tubs and granite countertops. Each luxury unit features an over-sized balcony with exterior storage space and some units include a backyard area for pets.
