Rommel Engineering and Construction Inc.

Integrated Mechanical Construction Services

Rommel has been involved in Maryland’s construction industry for over 50 years, and is now recognized as the area’s premier specialty trades contractor. Rommel Engineering and Construction Inc. (REC) was formed in 1988 (from a division of Rommel Electric) and later purchased the assets of the mechanical, electrical and service divisions of L.H. Cranston and Sons in 2011, thus creating Rommel Cranston Construction (RCC) and Rommel Cranston Service (RCS).

All three companies – REC, RCC and RCS – are now headquartered in Linthicum, Md., under the leadership of Leon Bromley, president of Rommel. Together, the Rommel team delivers the highest quality electrical and mechanical services for all commercial, industrial and institutional construction. While RCC and RCS are young, the companies’ crew and management teams bring many years of experience in service, plumbing, electrical, mechanical highway infrastructure and signal services to complement Rommel’s collective guaranteed customer satisfaction.

The powerful team’s leader, Bromley, initially began working for Rommel in 1978 as an apprentice. “I started in the electrical division and then started doing infrastructure work when that became a separate division,” he explains. “I have been president for eight years, and served as vice president for five years before that. I’ve been in this industry since I finished school, where I focused in electrical work. I worked for myself for a year and my father worked for Rommel. After that year, Rommel approached me to begin working for them.”

Integrated Services

The Rommel teams perform a range of mechanical, electrical and plumbing services for major heavy construction projects, many spanning multiple years. “Our niche is really our ability to perform projects with high-tech needs,” says Bromley. With a staff of over 300 trained professionals, Rommel is capable of taking on initiatives of nearly any size and scope within its trades. The business acts as a one-stop shop for turnkey electrical, mechanical, infrastructure and signaling work.

In its first year RCC achieved four merit awards from the Associated Builders and Contractors for its work, as the team encompasses broad capabilities and deep expertise in each sector. The electrical division works with clients to develop a finished product for all types of commercial and light industrial construction projects. While the mechanical and plumbing division excels in complex technical and structural designs and installations. Together, the team has performed work for hospitals, offices, educational institutions and warehouses, among other client types.

RCS delivers the highest quality commercial and residential service, repair and upgrades, as the team can perform preventative maintenance, mechanical and technological upgrades and remote monitoring services for HVAC systems. RCS’ services also include plumbing repair, testing, retrofits and replacements, while the company’s electrical services range from simple to complex and include upgrades, retrofits, maintenance and site lighting. Furthermore, the service department works for commercial and residential clients from small-scale repairs to major replacement projects for commercial clients.

Business Development

Collectively, the companies maintain solid relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, general contractors, engineers, architects and owners alike. The strong team has performed several major projects over the last few years for clients in a wide range of industries due to Rommel’s vast range of expertise.

One of the team’s recent award-winning projects was the University of Maryland, Baltimore’s Performing Arts and Humanities Center. The team performed mechanical work on-site for the first phase, and is now working on the construction of phase two. According to Bromley, Rommel’s other initiatives include the Aberdeen Proving Grounds laboratory, a complicated electrical and mechanical renovation that the team completed while the laboratory continued to operate. The Rommel team has also contributed to the new construction and renovations to a firehouse, suites at Shock Trauma, as well as many design-build projects.

The economy has proved challenging to the team, but Bromley notes that the collective Rommel team have remained flexible throughout a complex rebranding. “We are seeing a bit of a turnaround,” Bromley explains. “However, the private sector has not picked back up yet. A lot of our current projects are in institutional health care and schools. We are reinvesting in our management to help people in the field get the job done.”

Despite the recent challenges, Bromley is confident in the teams’ ability to strive toward success. With the diverse service offerings of Rommel Engineering and Construction Inc., Rommel Cranston Construction and Rommel Cranston Service under the Rommel umbrella, Bromley has a lot to be proud of. Together, the companies of Rommel will continue to grow as a leader in mechanical, electrical and plumbing services across the region.
