Program Solutions Group LLC (PSG) is a dedicated team comprised of construction and real estate industry veterans. The Ohio-based company’s sole goal is to assist and represent owners, tenants and end-users with the professional management of real estate and construction ventures. By tailor-fitting solutions to customers’ needs and going wherever the job demands, PSG is the go-anywhere, go-to construction management firm.

“Owners hire PSG to be their eyes and ears and provide construction expertise that the owner may not possess within its own resources,” shares Wayne Burrer, president and founder of PSG. “We travel across the U.S., as well as to Mexico, Europe and Asia; we go wherever it takes. We can do everything needed inside our four walls, from design to construction management without hiring a third party.”

Going Remote

PSG was formed in 2004 by Burrer after a successful 17-year run in construction management services for the commercial market. “I majored in construction management in college,” shares Burrer. “I went to work for a large general contractor for about 11 years. Then I moved onto an automotive supplier for about six years.”

Burrer’s goal in developing his own company was to provide clients more control of their construction and real estate programs. Over the last nine years, PSG has grown to include four partners and seven skilled project managers. “All of us at PSG have been on both sides of the transaction where we have contractor and owner backgrounds,” Burrer says. “It’s a nice perspective to have when you’re dealing with the business we’re in. I think our customer’s appreciate that aspect.”

The company calls Perrysburg, Ohio, home, but PSG covers global ground. “We have a one-man satellite office in Mexico,” shares Burrer. “Depending on the project we can set up a remote office just about anywhere. In the past, we’ve gone to China, India, Mexico and various locations throughout Europe. We go wherever the owner needs us to represent them.”

This go-anywhere capability has earned PSG a wealth of repeat business. “The volume we do is generally a mix of four to six of the same companies,” explains Burrer. “We follow them to many destinations and perform continuous work at multiple sites at any given time.”

According to Burrer, one of the most important aspects of going remote is finding the right subcontractors for the job. “Early on in the preconstruction phases we heavily research who the best local vendors and subcontractors are,” he says. “We do our best to hire as many subcontractors from the area as we can; usually there is plenty of good help to be found.”

Precise Commercial Construction Management

Burrer goes on to note that approximately 75 percent of PSG’s business is industrial. “We don’t perform residential jobs,” admits Burrer. “The bread and butter of our engagements run about a year and are most often a repeat client.” PSG eases the burden on owners by providing owner representation, constructability analysis, project management, building surveying and analysis, site selection and incentive negotiation, facility management consulting, move management and cost estimation.

“This past year we wrapped up headquarters for Healthcare REIT,” details Burrer. “It was basically a complete teardown renovation that lasted for about a year-and-a-half. This job was the areas first and highest-profile LEED Platinum-rated project.”

Since 2008 PSG has also completed over 600,000 square feet of expansion at First Solar in Perrysburg. “First Solar is the largest manufacturer of thin film solar modules and is one of the fastest growing producers of the product in the world,” explains Burrer. “We operated as the owner representative for the construction of an office addition. We successfully worked with the architectural team and general contractor under an aggressive schedule to ensure the owner’s needs and expectations were fully met. That first engagement lead PSG to become a preferred construction manager for first solar and several additional projects across the U.S. over the past five years.”

For nearly a decade, PSG has strived to deliver the best solutions for its clients. After all, “solutions” is the company’s middle name. Burrer attributes trusted relationships with repeat clients and a history of on-time, on-budget work to the company’s ability to weather recent economic challenges.

“We’ve managed to stay out of the competitive bid by doing more repeat work,” he reveals. “We offer a very transparent, open-book process that our customers appreciate. We’re able to secure a steady pipeline of business without having to bang our heads against five other companies bidding for the same job.”

PSG continues to operate as the eyes and ears of its clients, developing valued, trusted repeat working relationships. “Our core customer base is the single most important component of what we do,” explains Burrer. “It’s what has helped us pull through over the last five years.” With the ability to go anywhere and doing whatever it takes to ensure client satisfaction, Program Solutions Group LLC resides as one of the go-to construction management firms across both national and global markets.
