Progressive Communications Inc. (PCI) is a total information technology (IT) solutions provider that services all 50 states. Mark Hurt, CEO of PCI, founded the company in 1991, following his childhood dreams. “Ever since I was a small child this is what I pictured myself doing,” he admits. “All I wanted to do was to be in electronics. I started out in the industry in 1978 and I’ve been here ever since.”

Global Ground

What started as a childhood ambition is now a multimillion-dollar, nationwide company. Although PCI’s main headquarters are based in Georgia, the company also has offices in Dallas, Boston and Fort Lauderdale, Fla. “We service all 50 states,” shares Hurt. “We’re working in every state, every day.”

In 2009 PCI launched an international division in Panama. Efforts are currently underway to expand the company’s geographical footprint throughout South America, providing cutting-edge technologies to areas in great need.

Hurt attributes PCI’s national success to a talented team of about 250 engineers, executives, sales directors and installers dispersed throughout the U.S. “We have an extremely high employee retention rate,” he reveals. “The average employee has been with us for over 12 years, some 15 to 20 years. The same goes for our customers. Although we’re always looking for new customers most of our business is made of repeat clients.”

The Total IT Solution

PCI gives new meaning to turnkey solutions by offering a complete line of supported services in the design of sophisticated communication networks. PCI’s solutions unite complex voice, security, video and data systems for WAN and LANs with a full service technical staff to implement the technology.

“Our advantage is we’re much bigger than most IT companies in our area,” tells Hurt. “We have a large network of personnel that provide fully turnkey installations, design-build and maintenance for some of the largest networks and data centers in the country.”

Supporting Schools

PCI operates mainly in the educational sector and resides as the largest K-12 vendor in its home state. “We provide network cabling, data, voice and fiber optic cabling solutions to many school systems,” describes Hurt. “We perform pretty much everything in-house, ensuring it’s up to our high standards.”

Automated Network Systems (ANS), a division of PCI, has provided K-12 schools and higher education systems with networking options since 1991. ANS was founded as a network cabling resource provider, integrating data, voice and fiber optic cabling. As more and more classroom instruction is geared toward web-based software and online education, the need for wireless systems has increased significantly.

Bandwidth and network infrastructure are critical in maintaining effective wireless networks. As a result, ANS has developed long standing relationships with many school systems throughout the southeastern U.S. “Our K-12 sector has become one of the most proficient aspects of our business,” adds Hurt. “We’re currently starting work on a 1.5 million school system in northern Florida, which we’re excited about.”

Aside from school IT services, PCI also performs a great deal of medical installations for large-scale health care facilities. “We offer patient monitoring and telemetry installation, CCTV control access systems, network infrastructure design and expert project management,” shares Hurt.

PCI has also expanded into government projects with a list of military base projects lined up. The Georgia Department of Transportation is also one of the company’s regular clients, but Hurt is confident the government projects will be the newest affluent venture. “I think the government sector will be a good place for us to grow because we’ve added more services and have key sales people joining our team to target this market,” he reveals.

Although PCI already covers the entire U.S. and is reaching into South America, Hurt has no plans to slow down. “We expect to grow into a 200 million company over the next five years,” he states. “I know it’s a pretty aggressive growth plan but I think we can get there. We have the service and the people to do it.”

Hurt continues to foster his childhood ambition into a successful business grounded in excellent service and quality installations. PCI continues to be the go-to total IT provider for the K-12 sector throughout the southeastern U.S., providing trusted support.
