Las Vegas-based Professional Roofing Services (PRS) was founded by owner Anthony Cicchetti in 2005. Cicchetti boasts over 20 years of experience in the roofing business, as he has been involved the industry his entire adult life. Not long after setting up his new venture, Cicchetti sought the help of Michael Sheedy, previous senior vice president of PRS. “We’ve been friends for many years,” Sheedy explains of his relationship with Cicchetti. “I initially came to work here as director of marketing.” Over the years, Sheedy worked his way up the ranks and continued the push to expand PRS’s customer base until his recent retirement in 2013.
“As the name implies, we take a professional route as the way to operate in this business,” Sheedy explains. “Everyone here subscribes to the same philosophy that the roofing image has a bit of a black eye. Our main concern is providing an honest relationship with our clients. We are the most diversified roofer in Nevada.” The PRS team performs maintenance and replacement work, as well as new construction of roofs for a wide range of commercial and residential clients.
Size Matters
The team has provided durable, quality roofing solutions for single-family homes, homeowner associations, condominiums, hotels, medical centers, offices and more. “We don’t specialize in just one type of roofing service,” Sheedy notes. “We also have our own waterproofing division.”
PRS’ team of 125 operates in Las Vegas valley and northern Nevada, with two office locations. With a relatively large team, PRS performs most of its services in-house. “There are not many shops that can provide the man power that we can,” Sheedy elaborates. “We are diversified and we are very good at what we do. We identify the problems and challenges and then consult with our clients to determine the best way to do things.”
The team has established a high success rate by communicating with clients to determine needs and concerns. The result is a solid return customer base and an endless stream of referrals. “We have a very high capture rate of repeat business and referrals,” Sheedy explains, “We track all that. When we get a big rain here, we have between 2,500 and 3,000 calls coming in a week; 85 percent are repeat clients or referrals.”
PRS has carved out a spot in the market that is neither too large nor too small to succeed. The team is ready and able to maintain quality control on projects, no matter the size. However, Sheedy notes that it is important for the business to be able to operate in and contribute to a local market. The Las Vegas region has struggled in recent years following the recession and housing market bust, but PRS continues to push forward with value and consistency.
Steady Growth
Especially in Nevada, many companies have faced challenges resulting from the recession and proceeding housing crash. “Throughout an economy that has been a bit challenging, PRS is of the few businesses that keep daily records,” Sheedy notes. “We’ve been staying lean and keeping our profit margins at the best level possible.” The team’s diversity and knack for establishing lasting relationships has helped keep PRS secure despite the obstacles. Instead of focusing on a niche, which can be prone to sudden market changes, the crew cast a broad net.
“We’ve done more homeowners association [HOA] roofing projects,” Sheedy explains. “We will also work on repair and maintenance type projects. Right now our focus is more on the multifamily and commercial property management roofing.” Developers with control over several properties often award the team multiple contracts. PRS offers satisfying, efficient work, and property managers seek out that value when choosing a contractor.
By maintaining connections, PRS is poised for growth. The company works in partnership with several trade and community organizations that offer opportunities for growth, as well as giving back. These affiliations include: the National Roof Group, National Roofing Contractors Organization and Associated General Contractors among others that offer networking and educational services to members. Working with organizations such as the U.S. Green Building Council, several regional Better Business Bureaus and the National Association of Women in Construction, PRS is able to help build better working environments, stronger business climates and healthier communities.
Sheedy mentions that the team does not have any major anniversaries coming up. After eight strong years in operation, PRS continues to focus on steady, sustainable growth. “Honestly, we aren’t looking to get huge,” he explains. “We just want to keep pace with where we are and maintain our profit margins where they are. As long as we can stay ahead of the game and continue to adapt to our market, we should be fine.” Cicchetti and the Professional Roofing Services team will strive for excellence.
