Premier Equipment Inc.

Creating solutions for a growing industry

For more than 10 years, Premier Equipment Inc. has been New England’s most complete range supplier of mobile crushing, screening and conveyor equipment. Headquartered in Bellingham, Massachusetts, Premier Equipment distributes to aggregate producers, excavation, roadbuilding and recycling contractors. The company is also capable of working with specialized equipment for compost and topsoil producers.

“In years past, this was a very niche market within the construction industry,” says Eamon McMahon, founder and owner of Premier Equipment. “It has certainly become more mainstream with many contractors processing materials on-site instead of paying to transport the materials elsewhere.”

In addition to equipment, Premier Equipment also provides technical advice and post-sale support. With a large selection of parts, the company is able to support its entire range of machines, from the very earliest of models through to the latest. Premier Equipment’s team of trained service and technical engineers offers customer solutions that set the standard for the screening and crushing industry.

“We think of the initial purchase of equipment from us as only the beginning of a unique partnership with Premier Equipment,” says McMahon. “Our service team is here for every customer to help guide and support their needs throughout the lifetime of any machine.” Premier Equipment also maintains a solid inventory of used equipment available for purchase.

The top product lines that Premiere Equipment features are from Sandvik and Anaconda.  Sandvik mobile screens and crushers is an amalgamation of the former Extec and Fintec brands.  Premier Equipment provides Sandvik products, such as impactors, scalpers, screens, jaws and wheeled units.

Anaconda USA was established in 2008 and is also based in Bellingham. The company imports mobile screening and conveyor equipment and distributes its product in North, Central and South America. Using the finest component parts with highly trained design engineers, Anaconda provides products such as mobile tracked conveyors, trommel screens and scalping screens.

Expanding solutions and services

While maintaining its current market share, Premier Equipment is starting to venture into the recycling industry. The company is collaborating with a manufacturing company and looking at products that can specialize in high-intensity separation and the handling of organic construction and demolition materials. “We’re currently exploring some new opportunities in response to our customers’ needs,” says McMahon.

While Premier Equipment looks to expand its market share, the company will not shift focus from its current services. “What has happened in the marketplace today is that recycling is increasing,” says McMahon. “It isn’t just in construction materials, such as concrete and asphalt; it’s the core recycling, which takes place at landfills, transfer stations and many municipal facilities. While we are currently doing business with many of these facilities, we are expanding our product offering to include shredders, picking stations and density separators. These products will go hand in hand with our current product offerings. That’s where most of our expertise lies and therefore would cross over very well.”

Getting started

After graduating from college in Ireland with a degree in quantity surveying, which is similar to what would be recognized as a civil engineering degree in the United States, McMahon began working in the industry as a sales representative for a manufacturing company. After five years with the company, McMahon became intrigued by the thought of independent distribution and decided to start Premier Equipment. Since then, the company has grown to 13 full-time employees with a market reach of all six New England states.

As an immigrant from Ireland, McMahon decided to go into business for himself in order to remain in control of his own destiny. He enjoys the problem-solving aspect that Premier Equipment offers to the industry. “Providing efficient and economic solutions to customers’ material processing needs is important to us,” says McMahon. “We enjoy watching their businesses grow and growing with them. Crushing and screening has become a much more integral part of the industry than it has been in the past.”

With many companies in the construction industry reporting that acquiring talented, quality people is one of the main challenges in the field, McMahon has managed to maintain strong employee retention. After being the lone employee of the company for its infant stages, he now has many employees who have been with him for more than 10 years. “It’s been great to watch some of the people that work for me grow professionally and personally,” he says. “We all share a common goal and we work very hard toward that goal.”

While the company expands its market share, Premier Equipment Inc. will remain a solutions-based company with a heavy focus on client relations.
