Powerscreen, a Terex brand, is an industry leader in the design and manufacturing of mobile crushing and screening equipment. Pulling from global resources, decades of experience and in-depth industry knowledge, Powerscreen brings a comprehensive product portfolio supporting the quarrying, mining and material recycling industries. With a worldwide network of more than 120 local dealers, the company is a major player.
One dealer that frequently ranks among the brand’s top U.S. sellers is Powerscreen of Hawaii & California Inc. (Powerscreen California). Founded in 1986, by Irish immigrant Paul Campbell, CEO of Powerscreen California, the West Coast dealer has built a reputation for quality as a dominant force in the material handling industry.
“Paul worked for a Powerscreen factory in Northern Ireland for many years,” recounts Jay Wessel, chief financial officer of Powerscreen California. “When he relocated to the U.S., he had very little to his name, but he set up a California-based dealership to sell and rent Powerscreen’s equipment. We’ve been a distributor ever since and then business has been going strong for 28 years. We frequently rank among the top of Powerscreen’s dealers as second or third in the U.S.”
Premium products backed by service
With 22 employees, Powerscreen of California spans northern to southern California and the islands of Hawaii. “We have two locations, one in northern California and one in the southern part of the state,” details Wessel. “We cover the entire state with our fleet of service trucks, allowing us to be very responsive from a customer-service standpoint”
Powerscreen of California offers more than 90 products in-house for sale or rent. “Not only do we rent and sell Powerscreen equipment, we also back it up with parts, service and maintenance and that’s allowed us to do well throughout California,” says Wessel. “We sell and rent to major construction companies, such as Tiger and Granite rock; any major player in California or Hawaii either rents or buys equipment from us.”
In the off chance that Powerscreen of California does not have a particular part locally, it can be shipped out from the Powerscreen Parts headquarters in Ireland or Kentucky, where 5,000 line items are in-house at any given time. Powerscreen also supports its dealers with the ease of an online ordering system to deliver fast and efficient ordering and speedy support.
On-the-go support
The heavy equipment and construction supply company has forged phenomenal success and a strong reputation largely due to its commitment to responsive customer service and distributing high-quality products that meet worldwide transport requirements.
“Powerscreen has a range of more than 26 machines that cater to every screening need,” says Wessel. “All our machines are fully mobile and can be installed and commissioned within hours. The greatest advantage in this mobility over static units is that the machines can be installed beside the raw material and as the material is worked through, the machine can move to meet the need which reduces time and money spent transporting.”
Powerscreen’s mobile jaw crushers are designed to exceed the primary crushing needs of customers in the mining, quarrying and recycling industries. Among the most advanced and reliable in the market, jaw crushers are highly productive in a variety of applications. Dynamic jaw profiles and efficient drive systems allow these machines to return some of the lowest operating costs in their class.
The Powerscreen XA750 jaw crusher is fitted with a hydraulically driven pan feeder and live pre-screening unit, complete with a bolt-in cartridge-style grizzly section to remove fines and sizes prior to crushing. The design helps avoid packing and unnecessary manganese wear. Pre-screened material can be stockpiled via an optional dirt conveyor or re-directed via the bypass chute onto the main product conveyor.
An unrestricted 55-inch by 32-inch feed opening prevents bridging and maintains a consistent feed to the XA750, which features a hydraulic-assist closed-side setting adjustment system that can be changed at the touch of a button for product sizing control. A 288-kilowatt diesel engine that uses a direct drive system powers the unit and engine power is transmitted to the crusher via a self-adjusting, dry plate clutch.
Powerscreen of California also stocks a range of modular cone, impactor and VSI crushers, as well as a variety of screening, conveyor, recycling and washing equipment. “We made a continuous effort to match our products to what the market demands,” says Wessel. “We’re currently working on a line of filter presses in conjunction with MayTec, an Italian company. The filter press pumps aggregate waste to make a byproduct used in agriculture applications and compost.”
Wessel says Powerscreen of California Inc. is always striving for product advancement and better service, two hallmarks of what makes the dealer a top seller in the West Coast marketplace.
