Lee Roy Jordan Company (Lumber Company) is committed to outstanding customer service, quality products and competitive pricing. After almost 40 years in business, the Texas-based specialty lumber company offers a massive inventory.
Lee Roy Jordan, president and founder of Lumber Company, has worn many hats throughout his lifetime. Jordan spent 14 years playing for the Dallas Cowboys, competing in three Super Bowls and four Pro Bowls in his career. As a member of the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, the National College Hall of Fame and the Senior Bowl Hall of Fame, Jordan was inducted into the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor in 1990.
After an impressive football career, Jordan’s entrepreneurial aspirations lead him to purchase Redwood Lumber Company of Dallas (Redwood) in 1976. After the buyout in 1977, the company was renamed to its current incarnation, while the team continued to serve as the region’s largest exclusive dealer.
In 2003 Jordan decided to expand the facility and services offered at the Hillsboro, Texas, distribution center and remanufacturing plant. The Hillsboro location currently handles all wholesale distribution of specialty lumber products, while the Dallas location focuses on supplying DFW builders and contractors’ lumber needs. Combined, Lumber Company serves the entire state of Texas and a majority of the Southeast, including Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, Tennessee and Alabama.
Jordan attributes the company’s success to Lumber Company’s dedicated team of 50 individuals, as well as the company’s great vendor and partners. “I think I’ve got the finest employees in the world,” shares Jordan. “They’re a huge factor in our success.” Quality people and specialty products set Lumber Company apart from its competitors.
Specialty Products
“We have grown our business through what we offer in specialty products,” explains Jordan. “We can supply anyone’s lumber needs.” The company stocks genuine California redwood, tropical hardwood decking, Western Red Cedar and Douglas Fir. “Our enormous inventory of large timbers and the ability to size and surface these timbers to the customer’s specifications help shape the company’s identity,” details Jordan.
Lumber Company’s stock of genuine California redwood draws builders, contractors and homeowners alike from all over the Southeast. Although redwood is a beautiful choice for interior use, the best application is in outdoors settings. Dimensional stability and decay resistance make Lumber Company’s redwood an ideal product for all projects where longevity is a high priority.
Being both lightweight and easy to work with, redwood is a favorite of expert craftsmen, as it retains a finish better than any other domestic wood. The team at Lumber Company understands the value of maintaining the health of redwood and other specialty species populations. “We source our redwood from only the highest quality mills participating in the strictest forest management, ensuring there is more redwood trees is the future,” details Jordan.
Lumber Company also specializes in all natural Ipe and Abaco tropical decking. Tropical decking creates beautiful extensions to homes in every length of distinctive hardwood, while Ipe decking is 100-percent naturally durable, free of toxic preservatives and harvested using environmentally responsible sustained yield forestry. Smooth markings, even texture and warm highlights combine to create richness with minimal maintenance needed. Ipe and Abaco are nearly five times harder than pine, eliminating scarring, wear and twisting associated with softer woods.
Western Red Cedar and Douglas Fir are two versatile West Coast species that are available in a variety of products and grades. Both species are readily available and perform well in all climates. Offering large timbers to vertical grain clears, Western Red Cedar and Douglas Fir are great choices for most projects indoors and outdoors, according to Jordan.
The company provides all kinds of premium lumber products to a wide range of clients. “We supply custom-home builders, large-volume builders, as well as commercial contractors,” describes Jordan. “We provide large beams for the construction of pergolas, outdoor kitchens, country clubs and restaurants.”
Commitment to Service
While the wholesale division supplies lumberyards across Texas and the Southeast, the contractor division focuses on providing contractors in the Dallas/Fort Worth area with excellent service and quality building materials. The facility supplies framing lumber, engineered wood, panel products, treated lumber, cement siding and trim products, as well as all the specialty products handled at the wholesale facility. “Our commitment to service and quality sets us apart,” stresses Jordan. “We’ve been doing it for a long time now, growing the business on those primary objectives.”
Jordan is excited to pass these values on to his sons. “I’m going to leave the business in the hands on the second generation,” he says. “I’m looking forward to it.” Jordan emphasizes how important it also is for the company to continue setting goals. “We’re analyzing our business, setting goals for the future,” details Jordan. “I think it’s important that every year or two we go through a self-analysis process and ask ourselves where we want to be in the next few years.”
From his well-respected football career to his successful venture in the lumber industry, Jordan has always been a go-getter. Jordan is determined to maintain this prosperity, keeping Lee Roy Jordan Company on track as the best in the industry for years to come.
