Working Directly with Clients to Achieve Perfect Outcome

Langlas & Associates Inc. (L & A) is celebrating 40 successful years of general contracting, and clients know the company for its personalized service. L & A, based in Billings and Bozeman, Mont., has completed projects in Montana, North Dakota, Wyoming and South Dakota.

Stephen Langlas, president of L & A, and David Langlas founded the family-owned company as a carpentry subcontractor. The company was originally founded with five carpenters, and L & A now employs over 100 people, including 20 project managers and engineers, and 24 superintendents.

According to Stephen, the company is different from most area contractors because L & A has always self-performed most of the work on any given project. Stephen details that, on average, 85 percent of L & A’s workload is negotiated directly with clients. “This allows us to tackle more complicated work while maintaining a tight schedule,” says Stephen.

L & A has handled many projects since its inception, providing both preconstruction and construction services. The company is currently working in many sectors, including medical, school, retail, office, warehouse, industrial, hospitality, multifamily and custom housing.

Hard Work Recognized

L & A has earned many awards for its extensive work with both new and renovated buildings. In 2012 the company received an Adaptive Urban Revitalization Award from Bozeman’s Beautification Advisory Board for its renovation of the Granary Building.

The historic building on North Rouse Avenue in Bozeman was rundown and had become a home for pigeons. L & A worked with Montana Avenue Partners and Comma-Q Architecture to renovate the building. Thanks to L & A and the other partners, the historic building is now home to Pizza Campania, a classic Italian pizzeria. The owners are proud to boast that most of the building was reconstructed using recycled materials.

According to the restaurant’s website, old bricks were used to make the arch of the oven for wood-fire pizza and the floor came from a 147-year-old barn. Using this amount of recycled material in a given project suits L & A’s efforts to build sustainable buildings.

Building Green

Creating sustainable buildings is an ever-growing demand, which L & A recognizes. The company has made an effort to educate its team and clients about sustainable building, as well as be involved in community and national programs. “This effort is in hopes that projects built are beneficial to owners now and in the future,” says Stephen.

The company also employs several full-time LEED Accredited Professionals. In addition, one current project L & A is striving to complete with LEED Silver certification is a 125,000-square foot Department of Interior (DOI) office building in Billings, Mont. The federal project is expected to be complete May 2013.

Designed with Care

L & A has built a reputation for itself over the years for the company’s quality of work, ability to complete projects in a timely fashion and work directly with project owners to customize work to individual needs. Such attributes have earned L & A the designation of one of Montana’s premier custom homebuilders.

The company has built homes in Big Sky, Flathead Lake, Moonlight Basin, The Yellowstone Club, Bozeman, Gallatin Valley, Front Range of the Beartooth Mountains, Red Lodge, The Little Big Horn River and numerous homes in Billings and the Yellowstone Valley. Many of the company’s projects are located in remote areas, providing additional challenges to the construction team. The company has a portfolio of custom home projects on the L & A website.

In addition to homes, L & A has been very active in its medical division building new clinics and performing work in various hospitals in the region. Also, with the population growth in Montana, L & A has several school projects either just completed, under construction, or in its construction backlog.

As the company looks at its future in the construction market, the team intends to continue projects in all sectors of construction while maintaining its reputation of providing quality work. Langlas & Associates Inc. is sure to continue working directly with clients to achieve the perfect outcome.
