Brown Brothers Contracting Inc.

Making Life Easier for Clients One Parking Lot at a Time

17 years ago, Paul Brown and his three brothers founded Brown Brothers Contracting Inc. (Brown Brothers) and it wasn’t long before the Colorado-based commercial asphalt and concrete contractor made waves in the local industry. “We’ve grown every year since the company started in 1996,” reveals Paul Brown, owner of Brown Brothers. “We’ve become the leader in our local industry because everyone can do what we do, but they can’t do it with the same efficiency, accuracy and quality.”

When Brown Brothers entered the Denver market in 1996, Paul says most competitors performed either asphalt or concrete work. “We we’re the first to do both,” he reveals. “When other companies saw we were doing both they decided to do the same to keep up.”

In 2003, Paul’s brothers set out to form other companies and Paul remained with Brown Brothers. Since then, Brown Brothers has continued to expand its services, specializing in asphalt and parking lots while offering a wide array of services, including brick pavers, site infrastructure, storm drains, concrete walls, weatherproofing, pipe and dirt work and excavation.

“We’ll do an entire parking lot completely turnkey, no problem,” assures Paul. “We’re a one-stop-shop for parking lots; that’s what we’ve become and that’s where we’re headed in the future.”

Since the company’s inception in 1996, Brown Brothers has expanded its geographical reach across the state. “Our main, corporate office is located in Centennial, Colo., but we’ll travel all over the state,” details Paul. “There’s really no limit to our reach, given the work. We’ve gone to Kansas City, Mo., Virginia and North Carolina, and even Albuquerque, N.M. We’re nationwide, upon request.”

All about Accommodation

Paul says what sets Brown Brothers apart from the next commercial paver is the company’s ability to perform projects in heavily occupied high-traffic areas with expert project management and coordination. “It really comes down to coordination and effective project management,” he explains. “We’re constantly working around active spaces where people live, work, shop and play.”

“It’s different when you’re working on a road,” continues Paul. “You can simply put up a ‘road closed’ sign and get to work, with parking lots there are multiple entrances, stores, offices and  other buildings traffic is flowing from. And more often than not, we’re working with existing conditions, not laying completely new pavement which adds to the level of difficulty.”

But no matter how difficult the job, Paul says it’s all about easing the burden on clients by quickly and effectively turning over projects. “We ask, ‘how can we make things less difficult or less of a headache for the customer’,” adds Paul. “If we have to work over nights, from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. in order to have everything open and fully functional by the next morning we’ll do it. We will work around our customer’s business hours.”

And Brown Brothers has done so, time and time again. “At the Park Meadows Mall we completed a new parking lot for Red Robin, working every night, through the night to get the place up-and-running by morning,” reveals Paul. “Also, at the Flat Iron Mall in Bromfield, Colo., we just finished a brand new concrete staircase and other concrete work.”

“The work may be pretty standard,” continues Paul. “But it’s all about how it’s carried out. Delivering projects on-time, with effective communication is essential. We make our client’s lives a little easier and that’s how we build repeat business.”

The company has been building a network of repeat clients for 17 years. “Our longevity and character make Brown Brothers truly stand out in this market,” shares Kristen Brown, Paul’s wife and vice president of Brown Brothers. “We’ve never had to heavily market our business; most of our clients are a result of word-of-mouth referrals. We’ve outlived a lot of companies through the recession and seen others come-and-go, but we’re in it for the long haul.”

Paul says he has no doubts that Brown Brothers will continue to maintain its position as a market leader for years to come. “I know what my competition is and I know what they can and can’t do,” he explains. “I see our future as the leader in asphalt and concrete, more growth and more service.”

Making customers lives easier through expert project management, coordination and effective scheduling has made fully turnkey parking lots the name-of-the-game for Brown Brothers Contracting Inc.
