Refrigeration Systems Co.

Keeping Facility Performance High and Energy Costs Low

With 52 years of experience in temperature controlled facilities, Refrigeration Systems Co. (RSC) has recently experienced some of its busiest to-date. “We’re constantly busy,” reveals Bill Gorski, marketing manager for RSC. “Even through the depths of the recession while other companies were wondering what they were going to do; we stayed busy.”

RSC has been specializing in heavy industrial refrigeration since 1961, working with some of the largest corporations in the world, such as Wal-Mart, Kraft, Nestle, 3M, Monsanto and Kellogg’s. “We service all of the Wal-Mart distribution centers nationwide,” details Bill. “We do repairs, updates and maintenance of over 43 facilities.”

Setting an Industry Standard

The Ohio-based company supports retailers and corporate clients across the U.S. with three locations in Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati. “We now employ over 200 people after a recent merger with an Indianapolis-based company,” notes Bill. “This has allowed us to bring specialized commercial HVAC technicians on-board.”

RSC supports clients in the food distribution and processing industry, along with chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical markets. “Heavy industrial refrigeration is the name of our game,” admits Bill. “We help keep facilities up to date, which is extra important when OSHA evaluates them. Occupational Safety and Health Administration [OSHA] and the Environmental Protection Agency [EPA] rely on standards to inspect these facilities, and as an industry leader, we’ve helped develop those standards.”

RSC has been setting standards since its inception as a founding member of the International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration (IIAR). The IIAR is a globally recognized leader and advocate for the safe, reliable and efficient use of ammonia and other natural refrigerants. The organization provides education and standards that benefit the industry in safe, sustainable design, installation and operation of ammonia and natural refrigerant systems.

The company prides itself in a strong commitment to excellence and knowledge of the industry. Whether a client needs a door repaired, a state-of-the-art control system, the oil in a compressor analyzed, a custom skid-mounted refrigeration system or a 200,000-square-foot refrigerated expansion, RSC can do the job. “We operate nationwide and even outside of the U.S., serving clients from the food distribution industry to aerospace companies by the likes of Lockheed,” reveals Bill. “Our capabilities are quite diverse and wide-ranging.”

Expert Control

Whether it’s a new facility or a major upgrade, RSC’s team can procure, install and commission a range of refrigeration equipment, from industrial ammonia refrigerant systems to packages using HFCs. RSC provides zone control, controlled atmosphere storage, product blasting and freezing, quick chilling and cooling, condensed systems, hydro-coolers and ice makers, beverage carbonizers, process cooling, ammonia storage vapor recovery systems and condensing units.

The company’s engineers and technicians assist to design and install expertly controlled refrigeration, process automation, building mechanical systems and even lighting control. Through the use of the most cutting-edge industry technologies, RSC can generate trend analyses, sound and log alarms when pressure or temperatures drop below, or rise above, certain parameters, sound energy management data and monitor run times and temperatures of various equipment components.

“We keep your facility’s performance high and energy costs low,” adds Bill.

RSC understand the immediacy of timely service, especially when dealing with large amounts of cold storage. If something does start to go wrong, RSC can obtain the necessary refrigeration parts needed to keep systems online and temperatures stable, from refrigerant systems to doors and replacement light bulbs.

From its headquarters in Columbus, RSC’s parts department inventories a well-stocked range of new parts and components. “We carry parts for compressors, condensers, evaporators, chillers and pumps, valves, vessels, control systems, gaskets, gauges, float switches, anchors and fasteners, sensors, safety products; the list goes on and on,” says Bill.

With access to industry-leading technology and efficient, timely service, Bill notes that RSC won’t be cooling off any time soon. “We’re growing,” he shares. “We’re into a little bit of everything in our industry; we do the building, installation and refrigeration and that’s why most big box stores turn to us to put in their heavy duty refrigeration systems. I don’t see things slowing down for us any time soon.”

After 52 successful years in the heavy industrial refrigeration business, RSC knows the success of any project is getting the fine details right; that is exactly why the company’s staff works hard to meet specialized needs for temperature-controlled building and built-to-order refrigeration systems, as well as high quality technical support and replacement parts. Since 1961, Refrigeration Systems Co. has helped facilities perform better while keeping energy costs low.
