Sellmore Industries Inc.

Transformation to the Energy King Window and Door Collection

After nearly 60 years in business, Sellmore Industries Inc. (Sellmore) is undergoing a transformation that has positioned the New York-based window and door manufacturer to better deliver top-notch products on a national level, making way for unprecedented growth.

“It’s almost like we’re starting a brand new company,” explains Dave Yoviene, second-generation owner and vice president of sales for Sellmore. “Even though we’ve been manufacturing doors and windows for 60-plus years, we’re growing in a different direction by establishing new sales territories, hiring new sales consultants, purchasing updated equipment and improving our product lines.”

Sellmore was formed in 1957 by Yoviene’s father, James Yoviene. “I’ve been with the company for 35 years now,” reveals Yoviene. “We started out in the ’60s by manufacturing storm windows and I started out on the manufacturing line when I was 15 years old.” Yoviene runs the re-energized manufacturing facility today, as his dad is retired and now lives in Florida.

A New Direction with the Same Commitment to Customer Service

For the majority since inception, Sellmore sold its products exclusively to its own distribution branches in Philadelphia, Buffalo, N.Y., as well as Baltimore and Hagerstown, Md. “As of July 1, 2013, we no longer run the distribution offices,” shares Yoviene. “The four supply centers were acquired by ABC Supply Company [ABC], the nation’s largest building material distributor with more than 450 locations.”

According to Yoviene, the shift made great economic sense. “It’s been a win-win for our company owners and employees,” he continues. “The bonus in the deal was that we’re still maintaining the manufacturing portion of the business.”

Today, Sellmore remains located in Buffalo with its corporate headquarters and window and door manufacturing plant located on Smith Street. “The name on the door has changed but industry professionals will continue to find many familiar faces behind the counter,” explains Yoviene. “The locations will continue to offer the products, brands and services customers have come to expect from Sellmore. The added feature is that now the supply centers will be able to serve builders and contractors better with ABC’s capabilities.”

The window and door manufacturing facility now employs approximately 50 individuals, and a brand-new sales team is the offshoot of the company’s rebirth. “We used to sell through our distribution branches and direct to general contractors,” Yoviene details. “Now we have transformed to a window and door manufacturer that sells direct to national distributors. We’ve formed a top-notch sales team to do it, including new Rick Mumford, national sales manager, who has worked for some of the largest window outfits in the nation. He’s helping us open up new markets and has been hugely influential in the transition.”

Expanding Product Lines for Better Windows and Doors

While the way in which Sellmore sells and distributes products has changed, Yoviene assures the quality of the company’s product line will always be in improvement mode. “We continue to manufacture our line of Energy King Windows and Doors,” Yoviene points out, “From Vinyl double and single hungs, casements, awnings, bows and bays, architectural shapes and steel or fiberglass residential doors for the remodeling and new construction markets. All our products are meeting and exceeding Energy Star requirements. We offer fast delivery backed by a fantastic service and sales team. Everyone says that, but we really intend to stand behind our product and services while making high-end quality products.”

Sellmore works with an exclusive network of material suppliers and names that have been setting the industry standard for decades. “Guardian Glass just introduced a brand-new high energy glass product and we jumped right on board to offer it,” details Yoviene. “This high-end, low-energy [Low-E] glass is state-of-the-art and surpasses standards set in the glass industry.”

Energy King Signature low-E insulated glass is some of the most efficient on the market. Super Spacer warm edge technology offers more than just a low-conductive product; it also makes windows more thermally efficient. These insulated units are dual sealed to resist the infiltration of moisture vapor and low temperatures while withstanding the effects of high humidity and ultraviolet exposure.

Low-E glass combines the power of a dual-sealed unit in the only true warm edge product, Super Spacer, along with the dual seal insulting glass system. Super Spacer is zero-metal, structural foam insulating glass spacer backed by high strength acrylic adhesive for a silicone seal. The product is also backed by a vapor seal and lasts five times longer in durability tests than single-seal units.

The product speaks for itself in top-notch performance. In cold weather, Low-E glass stays warm on the inside, minimizing cold spots, convention currents and condensation. Low-E glass also protects fabrics, carpets and all coverings in the home from fading by blocking up to 61 percent of harmful ultraviolet rays while improving energy savings for homeowners.

A Trusted Team and Room to Grow

Improving a home’s performance and easing the financial burden on homeowners, be it a private home or a multifamily unit, is always the end goal for Energy King Window and Door and its exceptional team. Even amid national growth, Yoviene assures Sellmore remains a family-first company.

“Our employees have been here forever, some for 20 years or more,” Yoviene adds. “When people start here, they don’t quit, because once you’re in, you’re family and we treat you that way. Our people care about the product going out the door and it shows in our service and delivery.”

As Sellmore completes its transition into new products and national distribution channels, Yoviene says his team is excited for the opportunities ahead. “We have a great relationship with ABC and some of the other bigger supply houses throughout New England, as well as New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey and our new sales team is fired up and ready to go,” he reveals. Amid expansion and increased sales, Sellmore Industries Inc. remains committed to complete customer service, satisfaction and industry-leading products.
