Since its founding in 1999, Parker Construction Company Inc. (PCCI) has quickly climbed to the top of New England’s custom homebuilding and renovations market. Despite extensive growth, PCCI continues to pride itself on a combination of unmatched quality and innovation backed by family ownership. “My father, Glenn Parker, started the company looking to do things differently,” shares Brady Parker, director of client services for PCCI. Brady proudly continues that tradition today.
“I started helping my father about nine years ago with a couple of large projects,” recalls Brady. “We had two significant jobs, one right after the other, which lasted for about three years. I ended up staying involved with project management. When we established our client services division and this position opened up, I knew I was a good fit.”
Established Customer Satisfaction
Several years ago, the Rhode Island-based residential contractor created a division solely dedicated to customer service, something Brady says is unlike what’s offered by any other company in the area. “We wanted our quality of customer service to be so exceptional that we set up a part of the business that’s dedicated to it,” he says. “Usually a contractor comes in, finishes the job and says, ‘Nice working with you,’ but we’re there for the long term.”
And Brady’s words are backed by facts. Well after a project’s completion, the company provides continuous maintenance and emergency service. “You don’t see a lot of other companies offering this type of concierge service,” adds Brady. “They might have one guy who does it, but we have a whole division. Anything we think needs to be done, we’ll do it and do it well.”
PCCI now serves homeowners throughout Rhode Island and into Massachusetts. “We’re in the big Rhode Island markets, Newport and Providence, but since it’s such a small state with many other contractors you really need to set yourself above the other guys,” notes Brady. “Especially with the economic downturn, some of our competitors bid much lower on numbers, but our customers know that even though we might be a little more, we’re going to deliver a finer product and service.”
Brady adds that PCCI has also established itself as the go-to company for speedy delivery. “We’re known for completing jobs in short time frames,” he says. “When other contractors say, ‘No, it can’t be done in that amount of time,’ we say, ‘Yes, we’ll complete it early.'”
And customers agree. “Even though we were living 1,400 miles away and were only able to visit the site twice during the project, we felt like we were participating in all the key decisions,” reads a customer testimonial on PCCI’s website. “They worked on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays to meet our deadline and no detail was overlooked nor considered insignificant.”
The Parker Difference
The level of customer satisfaction makes PCCI the go-to contractor for a wide range of projects. “We’re currently working on a 15,000-square-foot residence in Newport,” reveals Brady. “This is a complete ground-up build on a very tight site. We actually shrink-wrapped the house so we could work through the winter months and, as of now, we’re three weeks ahead of schedule.”
PCCI also recently completed a four-story historic renovation in Providence’s East Side. “We finished this job with an accelerated five-month schedule, delivering a complete makeover and redesign while preserving much of its historic architectural details,” shares Brady. “A concerted effort was made to save and restore these historic details where possible. We also recreated those details that were not recoverable with care and precisions, including new doors and mouldings that were fabricated to replicate the originals.”
The new addition to the home included radiant heat installed in the lower level and all bathrooms. The company utilized Icynene, an environmentally friendly, renewable based spray foam insulation and air barrier material to increase the home’s energy efficiency. PCCI rebuilt the grounds to accommodate a blue-stone terrace, deck and children’s play area.
“No matter the project, we’re geared by schedules, from the biggest to the smallest project,” adds Brady. “Delivering jobs on time so people can get back to their daily routine is our biggest concern.”
Brady admits, although the housing market has slowed down in Rhode Island, PCCI is starting to see a turnaround. “For now, I see us staying where we are, staying fairly busy and maintaining our position in the market,” he says. “It will take a few more years, but I think you can see across various industries that we’re finally in an upswing not a downswing.”
For 14 years, PCCI has strived for nothing but the best in residential construction. “Anything we do will be done the absolute best that it can be done, without exception,” ensures Glenn Parker, president of PCCI. “It’s our goal to provide our clients with a level of construction service, which exceed their expectations and ensure an enjoyable, exciting and rewarding experience.” Parker Construction Company Inc. continues to hold a high standard for above-average residential construction and remodels.
