Paragon Roofing Inc. (PRI) has provided northern Texas’ schools, businesses and residences with innovative roofing technologies since 1989. John Davis, president of PRI, founded the company over two decades ago alongside partners Steve Smith and Jim Stalcup. Since that time PRI has grown from a handful of individuals completing small commercial projects to a team of 140 serving the needs of large businesses, regional schools and a crowd of homeowners.
From new construction to reroofing, the PRI team provides quality service with a focus on safety and energy efficiency. PRI is outfitted to perform sheet metal work, as well as to install composite wall panels. Glen McCrary, project manager for PRI, says the company performs each project almost entirely in-house. PRI’s staff is comprised of experienced professionals who complete periodic training to keep the company at the front of new roofing technologies and safety standards.
Long-term Protection
In addition to new roofs, PRI offers repair and maintenance services. Clients can invest in the longevity of a new roof by enrolling in a routine maintenance and inspection program. PRI professionals periodically check up on roofs, performing full inspections to anticipate any issues and perform preventative maintenance to stop a leak before it starts. The company also offers a variety of sealants and protective coatings that can be applied during the building process or as an upgrade to existing roofing systems, ensuring clients are always taken care of.
When something does go wrong with a roof, the team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for emergency repairs. PRI performs leak research and water testing so any issue can be fixed at the source if one arises. Additionally, PRI provides its customers with before and after pictures of any repair work to keep clients on the same page and keep a record of the roof’s maintenance history.
The company has a reputation around Dallas and Fort Worth for the team’s ability to complete unusual and often complex projects. PRI is fully insured, and clients are guaranteed a team of experienced, safe professionals applying the latest in roofing technology to meet a business’ or individual’s needs. In order to uphold the company’s reputation, PRI teams hold weekly safety meetings on-site and the company has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to situations that threaten employee safety standards. OSHA-compliant equipment is standard procedure and is provided to team members. PRI employs its own safety director who regularly visits jobsites for inspections and reviews.
Keeping It Cool
McCrary says his most memorable project to date has been the installation at Lady Bird Johnson Middle School (LBJMS) in Irving, Texas. “The school was a net-zero project,” he recalls. “It was built to be a self-sustaining structure.” LBJMS produces as much energy as it consumes yearly through the use of solar panels, geothermal energy and wind turbines, which decreases the district’s energy costs, carbon footprint and oil dependency. A graywater system recycles water from sinks and showers through a filter and the water is used to irrigate the school grounds.
PRI was up to the challenge of providing a high-efficiency roof for the building, which employs a very simple idea to reduce energy consumption; the roof is white. While a black tar roof absorbs heat from the sun, a white roof reflects it. It’s a small change, but the color of a roof makes a big difference in energy use. Black tar roof systems can rise in temperature to double that of outside air. A white roof deflects as much of 85 percent of the sun’s rays, and keeps the inside temperature of a building around 10-degrees cooler than outside air. The middle school is further protected with R-30 insulation layered on thick to beat the heat. The school does not rely on grid electricity for power but, if it did, LBJMS could expect an estimated 28-percent energy cost savings from having a white roof alone.
The team’s experience has allowed PRI’s portfolio to include projects small and large from local and national clients. McCrary and the team take pride in turning difficult jobs into success stories. Many of the public schools in the region are protected under roofs installed by PRI, and the green trend is growing. With the experience and knowledge the PRI team holds, the company is leading the local market in environmentally friendly roofing systems.
High-technology solutions and earth-friendly innovations will allow PRI steady growth over the next few years. The company’s slogan, “A Pattern of Excellence,” has been employed as the leading philosophy for the business since the beginning. Clients experience this pattern through dedicated and innovative staff in addition to clean, safe jobsites being the calling card of each PRI project. Paragon Roofing Inc. stands by each installation for the life of each product through support start to finish.
