20 years of top-quality commercial build-outs, finishes and renovations in southern Florida

In Sarasota, Florida, Kin-Care Services Inc. is building on 20 years of full-service general contracting, specializing in commercial build-outs, residential and foreclosure renovations. As certified division-six carpenters, Kin-Care also offers in-house expertise in interior finishes, framing and trim work with an eye for the details that produce exceptional quality craftsmanship.

“I’ve found over the years that it’s not about chasing the dollar – if you do that, you’ll lose business, but if you chase quality, you’ll be buried in work,” says Gary Kinser, president of Kin-Care.

Taking off

Kinser founded Kin-Care in 1995 after 12 years with the United States Marine Corps as a jet technician. This background in technical science provided him with a solid foundation for commercial and residential construction. Kinser remains an avid pilot today, bridging his love for flying with his construction business.

“I keep a plane at the Sarasota-Bradenton Airport and a few days a week you can find me out flying around the state, ensuring projects are moving forward,” he reveals. Kinser also donates his time as the vice president and safety officer for Sarasota SeaBreeze Flyers, a nonprofit organization.

Today, Kinser leads Kin-Care’s team of nine employees and an additional 40 to 50 subcontractors, delivering first-class finish construction and construction management services to clients in 31 counties across southern Florida. “I started the business in 1995 as a small company doing home repairs,” he recounts. “Eventually we got licensed as a residential contractor and we made our way into general contracting. We’re still a fairly small company, but over the years we have gotten bigger and bigger and Kin-Care is currently an authorized service provider for Home Depot Renovations Services and other bank foreclosure-market clients.”

As an authorized service provider for Home Depot’s Renovation Services division, Kin-Care is a leader in the renovation market. Since February 2012, the company has successfully completed more than 800 home renovations.

“We do many renovations for Home Depot from Ocala down to Key West, Tampa to West Palm,” says Kinser. “Kin-Care has project managers on-site all over the state, performing total transformations and flipping these homes around. On the same token, we’re also a division-six subcontractor carpenter for many large-scale general contractors. About 60 percent of the time we’re in a subcontracting role and 40 percent we’re working as a general contractor.”

First in finishes and commercial build-outs

Kin-Care’s skilled craftspeople specialize in interior trim work in the commercial sector. “We run crews from Jacksonville to Key West in this market and at any given time, we have five to 12 contracts in place with large general contractors,” says Kinser. “Within this market we do everything from high-rise hotels to restaurants and even assisted-living facilities – doors, trim, crown and framing – we’re interior wood work specialists and we can deliver a single-story to a 50-story job. We provide the labor and materials to make these projects move forward.”

Kin-Care is also working as a subcontractor for Gilbane Building Company as part of the Azure luxury waterfront condominiums. “This is as high-end as you get in condominiums,” says Kinser.

Striving for quality

But that’s no problem for Kin-Care as the company always has its focus on quality craftsmanship. “I’ve surrounded myself with a very talented team,” says Kinser. “When I hire, I look for that spark in the eye; someone who lives it, breathes it. Some people get into construction as means to an end, but we’re surrounded by educated people who like to live, eat and breathe construction. When this is the mantra, the drive isn’t for a dollar; the drive is for quality.”

Kinser says quality craftsmanship really shows, especially in Kin-Care’s line of work. “When the lines are good and a customer walks in and sees the finished project and says, ‘wow that really looks great,’ that’s where I get true satisfaction.”

After 20 years in business, Kin-Care is in expansion mode. “It’s been an uphill road with the economy but now we’re growing and we’re on track for revenues of $4.5 to $6.5 million per year,” notes Kinser.

Kinser assures this comes from chasing quality, not dollars. This continues to drive more commercial build-out and residential renovation clients to Kin-Care Services Inc. year after year.
