For Insul-Con Inc. (Insul-Con), it’s been a strong and steady 25 years. The Georgia-based mechanical systems insulation contractor has been a trusted name in the greater Atlanta metro market and beyond since 1988. “Our longevity and reputation set us apart,” says Auston Shaw, 18-year running, second-generation president of Insul-Con. “We’ve had a continuously strong standing relationship with our customers for more than a quarter century.”
Since its inception in 1988, Insul-Con’s mission has been to provide the high quality service customers expect and deserve at a fair price, backed by a continuous effort to offer a safe, progressive and opportunistic workplace for all employees. These guiding principles began with Ray Shaw, founder of Insul-Con. “My father established the company in 1988 and I bought it from him at the end of 2005,” notes Shaw.
Today, Insul-Con has expanded into three locations from corporate headquarters in Atlanta to Macon and Columbus, Ga. “We’re Georgia-based but we’ll travel for the right jobs and in the past we’ve gone from Boston to Texas,” says Shaw. “We now employ 80 professionals and even through the recession we maintained a steady workforce.”
Shaw says it’s this dedicated team that’s allowed Insul-Con to establish itself as one of the top mechanical systems insulation contractors in the state. “We are experienced in all facets of commercial and industrial construction, including office buildings, schools, hospitals, chemical plants and manufacturing facilities and we have extensive experience with work on military bases as well,” he notes.
Broad mechanical service
Insul-Con supports mechanical contractors with services covering HVAC chilled and hot water systems, process systems such as steam and cooling water, plumbing systems from domestic water to rainwater and sanitary, computer rooms, kitchen exhaust duct systems, generator exhausts and boiler breeching systems.
The company also covers hot and cold equipment pumps, heat exchangers and chillers, indoor and outdoor storage tanks, refrigeration systems and fire stopping of penetrations in fire-rated walls and floors. Insul-Con backs service with quality materials, installing all insulation supplies such as calcium silicate, cellular glass, fiberglass, flexible unicellular, mineral wool and urethane.
“We cover a range of services and we self-perform 100 percent of our work,” adds Shaw. “We recently completed a large addition involving mechanical insulation at the Omni Hotel in Nashville and the Country Music Hall of Fame. Insul-Con has also performed mechanical insulation at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta.”
Other notable projects under Insul-Con’s mechanical belt include The Mansion on Peachtree, Tift Regional Medical Center, the Columbus Civic Center and Cox Communications.
As members of the Southeastern Insulation Contractors Association and the National Insulation Association, Shaw says the company stays well connected in its industry and he’s optimistic about Insul-Con’s outlook.
“We’ve maintained and even grown over the last few years while some of our competition didn’t make it,” he says. “The competition that remains is hungry because margins have dropped and there’s not as much work to go around, but Atlanta is a little ahead of the economic curve. We’re still here and we have a strong name.”
Insul-Con Inc. has been building on its name and reputation for reliable mechanical contracting for more than 25 years going strong and steady.
