Steve Head and Chip Evans founded a small construction company, Christian Brothers Inc. (CBI) in Alpharetta, Ga., in 1999. Steve and Chip – who consider themselves brothers in Christ Jesus – felt the need to start a business that would be centered on faith. Therefore, CBI’s logo offers homage to the Lord, whom Steve and Chip deemed the third partner in the firm.
“A cross with three circles symbolizes the two founders relationship with Jesus; the top circle in red represents Christ’s sacrifice to the world, while underneath the two white circles represent CBI’s other partners, washed clean by His grace,” Steve explains
According to Steve, love and devotion to the Almighty continues to be the driving force behind CBI’s continued success today. After nearly 14 years in the industry, the CBI team notes that the largest attribute that sets the company apart from its competition is the team’s dedication to service.
“Before the company started in 1999, Chip and I were looking to start a company that was not only dedicated to constructing quality buildings, but more importantly, spreading the word of God by example,” Steve explains. “As the company continues to grow we are raising two men, Greg Smith and Dell Cornett, to lead the company into the future. Chip and I will be passing CBI’s legacy and reputation over to Greg and Dell in 2021.”
Unlike Any Other
CBI performs a range of commercial projects, working with several long-term clients to deliver retail and restaurant construction services with consistent quality, as CBI builds across the southeast for numerous repeat clients. The company’s long-term customers include major chains such as AutoZone, Quicktrip, Harris Teeter, Steak N Shake, O’Reilly’s, I-Hop, Zaxby’s, Tiresplus, Taco Bell, KFC and Chase Bank. The team takes special care to work with clients to meet individual specifications while exceeding expectations of performance.
CBI holds licenses in 13 states and has completed over 400 projects within the last 14 years; the CBI team always has something in the works. With several projects in the pipeline, the company is currently focused on a few major chain projects. CBI is currently building over 18 projects for their national clientele. Since the company was founded, CBI has remained focused on building strong lasting relationships with national account owners.
While the business applies the same standards of attention, safety and performance to each project, one portfolio piece strikes Steve as extra meaningful. Mountain Lake Church is not just a well-constructed spiritual space, but also the place where several employees go to worship each week. The church’s lead pastor, Shawn Lovejoy, offers a rave review of CBI’s performance throughout construction. “CBI’s belief that ‘Integrity Builds Relationships’ has been demonstrated throughout this project,” the business quotes in its online portfolio. “They got us in our new worship space ahead of schedule and under budget. What more could we ask for?”
CBI acts primarily as general contractors, utilizing subcontractors from all trades. The team has built a network of trustworthy subcontractors, and works with most of the same people on projects, depending on the scope and location of the site. The commitment and devotion to CBI’s subcontractors has allowed the company to build a strong dependable team. CBI’s subcontractors follow the same mission and values in order to ensure a quality project that’s built safely and with a sense of pride.
Such growing relationships – both with strategic partners and customers – ensure that CBI is in it for the long haul. The recent recession has put pressure on contractors all over the country, but the company remains stable, turning to faith for the strength needed to remain strong throughout troubled times.
“CBI still has a lot of competition left,” Steve explains of the current market conditions, “We’re stable and busy with enough work to go around.” Over the next few years the CBI team believes that the company will continue to see growth at a slow but steady rate, God willing. “This company is willing to follow whatever the Lord has planned,” Steve continues.
The CBI team has worked hard to promote a business that reflects Christian values. “While we are a Christian company, we are not looking to preach all the time,” Steve explains. “Our team understands the importance of leading by example.”
CBI is a company in which customers have come to rely on to be true to its word, fair and dedicated to offering an experience that meets the specifications agreed upon in both contracts and bids. From the ground up, the team continues to follow Christian Brothers Inc.’s belief that integrity builds relationships, where integrity and values are in its highest form.
