San Antonio Halliburton Energy Field Camp – Lyness Construction LP

A Vital Facility Takes Shape

Lyness Construction LP (Lyness), a general contracting company, is constructing a new facility in San Antonio, Texas. The 160-acre field camp will provide support for Halliburton Energy Services (Halliburton), which is currently active in the Eagle Ford Shale play (EFS). The development of this site is essential to a growing oil industry in South Texas. Lyness, as the project’s general contractor, is helping make this important economic boom happen, bringing newfound wealth to the region.

Lyness was founded by Tim Lyness in 1989, and operates in Cleburne, Texas, servicing the states of Texas and Louisiana. Today Tim shares leadership with his brothers, Mike and Ryan, whose dedication and commitment to safety, leadership and customer service has led to the effective management of projects in both the public and private sectors. Tim, Mike and Ryan’s drive and passion has resulted in the completion of hundreds of commercial and industrial projects over the years.

Such teamwork echoes the level of professionalism that has come to be known as Lyness. The company offers a variety of services, including construction management at risk, design-build, general contracting, construction management, energy construction, industrial maintenance, excavation, utilities, concrete and demolition with the help of Lyness’ 100 diverse experts.

The company serves many clients, including the range from educational to institutional and government to industrial sectors. In addition, Lyness’ long-time clients derive from the energy, oil and gas industry. The company’s notable clients include Halliburton, Halliburton Sperry, the Brazos River Authority, Naval Air Station, Rangaire, Rubbermaid, Johns Manville, Jet Research, Wolf Hollow Power Plant, Devon Energy, TXI, James Hardie, Air Liquide, Hill College and many more.

Reliable and Professional

The $80 million field camp launched in June 2012, and is expected to be fully operationally by fall 2013. The site consists of 13 to 15 buildings, including a 120,000-square foot truck maintenance shop. Multatech of Fort Worth, Texas, with Big Red Dog Engineering of Austin, Texas, designed the massive project. Due to the project’s importance, Lyness has put its best team forward. Ryan Lyness, lead superintendent for Lyness on the project, brings years of experience and knowledge to the table. Jim Barnes, project manager for Lyness, is also no stranger to construction management, as he has been in the industry for over 40 years. Additionally, Jim heads three different field camp sites, with the largest being San Antonio.

Although Lyness self-performs much of the company’s concrete and dirt work, a strong relationship with subcontractors helps get the job done effectively and on time. When hiring subcontractors, Lyness attains the most qualified teams. “Our subcontractors have the working background and knowledge to meet the high standards required to successfully complete a Lyness project,” says Tim.

The company believes in following up through every stage of the project. It’s this attitude and dedication to reliable, professional service that gets Lyness jobs of such magnitude; such teamwork builds a foundation for success. “They need to know the ins and outs of what it takes to put a project like this together,” says Tim.

Economic Impact

The company’s proven ability to foster a collaborative spirit with clients and design partners alike is essential to the success of a project, especially when dealing with large-scale operations like the San Antonio sites. The service Lyness has provided at the Halliburton field camp will impact the future of south Texas for many years to come.

The picture of the modern oil and gas boom is taking shape in a 14-county area in south Texas. EFS is possibly one of the largest economic movements in the history of the state, ranking as one of the largest oil and gas development in the world with approximately 250 rigs running daily.

According to the Eagle Ford Shale website, in 2011 EFS brought in more than $25 billion in economic growth to the area, along with supporting 40,000 jobs. This is expected to increase in 2013; almost $30 billion will be spent growing the EFS play. Once the site reaches completion it will bring an additional 1,500 jobs to the San Antonio area.

After 24 years in business, Lyness Construction LP not only provides a wide range of services to clients across the board, but also is helping to invest in its home state’s future prosperity. For the San Antonio area, it all begins with San Antonio’s Halliburton Energy Field Camp.
