Reiman Corp.

For more than 65 years, Reiman Corp. has been a household name in construction throughout the state of Wyoming and western Nebraska. Specializing in bridge and road construction, Reiman Corp. also works in pile -driving and structural remodeling and the company has completed more than 2,500 projects, including commercial and public buildings. While headquartered in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Reiman Corp also holds contractor licenses in Colorado, New Mexico and Nebraska.

Founded in 1948, Reiman Corp. began strictly as a commercial builder. In the mid-1950s, the company diversified and stretched its market reach into bridge building and road construction. The company continued on this path into the mid-1980s, when it began to focus primarily on bridge and road work. “We’ve always stayed involved in commercial building,” says Tom Reiman, president and CEO of Reiman Corp. “We have some partners that focus heavily on the development side of the company.”

A multitalented team

Reiman Corp. works both as a prime contractor and a subcontractor. With the equipment and capabilities to complete multiple bridge and road work projects, the company self-performs a majority of the work involved. When working in commercial development, Reiman Corp. acts as a general contractor, providing construction management services with its strong network of subcontractors that the company has established over the years. 

With approximately 165 full-time employees, Reiman says the skilled and talented people of Reiman Corp. are the reason for the company’s longevity and success. “Our entire team is very dedicated,” he says. “We have a lot of talented people who have been with the company for a long time and they are what set us apart.”

Along with customer satisfaction, Reiman factors in employee satisfaction as a measure of success for the company. One employee has been with the company for more than 40 years and numerous others have tenure of 30-plus years. “We also look at repeat business,” says Reiman. “Anytime that we do a job for a client, we want them to think of us first the next time they need something done.”

One of the biggest challenges that Reiman is experiencing is one that affects the entire construction industry: a dwindling market of qualified people entering the trade. To combat this, Reiman Corp. is working in conjunction with the Wyoming Contractor’s Association (WCA) in training programs aimed at generating interest as well as providing people with the proper education and training required to become competent workers in the field. The training is provided at the McMurray Training Center in Casper, Wyoming, and offers courses in construction, energy and transportation.

Recent work

At any given time, Reiman Corp. has between 15 and 18 projects under construction. The company’s largest current job is taking place in Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, and involves the repair and reconstruction of three overpass bridges on Interstate 80. Due to the current structures becoming obsolete and difficult to maintain, they will be replaced with more aesthetically pleasing modular forms.

Reiman Corp. also recently completed phase one of a street reconstruction project involving 19th Street in Cheyenne, Wyoming. After removing the old street, Reiman Corp. installed new utilities as well as new curb and gutter work. Reiman Corp. is now working on phase two of the project, which involves the last couple of blocks of the street.

The 19th Street project presents an example of how Reiman Corp. has established a strong network of subcontractors. By working with trusted partners to complete the asphalt paving for 19th Street, the project was completed ahead of schedule and in time for the Cheyenne Frontier Days, which is a celebration of the town’s Old West roots. “Our subs are key to what we do,” says Reiman. “Whether it’s a commercial building or highway construction, who you use can make a big difference in the success of the job.”

Since Reiman Corp. was started by his father, Reiman has been surrounded by the company for his entire life. While working on the weekends and during summer vacations as a teenager, he gained an appreciation for the family business as well as a passion for the industry. “I get a lot of satisfaction being able to see a project when it’s completed,” says Reiman. “It’s nice to drive around the state and see buildings and bridges and know that you were a part of the completion of them.”

The future is looking bright and the company plans to remain on the path that it has been on. With federal funding stimulating bridge and highway construction, Reiman Corp. shows no signs of slowing down.
