Celebrating its 10-year anniversary in 2015, RAB Communications Inc. (RAB) has been providing quality telecommunications contracting since 2005. Mark Metz founded RAB when he noticed the large corporation he was working for wasn’t paying attention to the treatment of long-term clients. After being in the industry since 1988, Metz knew the importance of repeat business.
“I saw an opportunity to get all of our old clients back and to start up a business of my own,” he explains. Metz, now CEO, formed RAB with his business partner, Russell Blow, COO.
As a national telecom contractor, RAB finds success by focusing on finding ways to stay diversified in the industry. “We fill our plate with being diverse,” says Metz. “There are a number of different aspects of our business.”
With major cable and phone companies, such as Time Warner, Comcast, Cable Vision and Verizon as customers, RAB continues to flourish by not binding itself to a specific market or niche.
RAB runs the gamut of services for the telecom industry. From design and sales, to marketing and maintenance, the company has skilled employees ready to assist any client’s needs. RAB focuses on providing consistent, quality service and prides itself in timely project completion.
Recently, RAB completed a project for Vermont Telephone. Working under Mastec, the job’s general contractor, RAB installed fiber drops for Vermont Telephone’s upgrade. “It was a nice project,” he states. “We got that done rather quickly.”
Speed, along with quality, on the job only helps bolster RAB’s reputation in the telecom industry. That, coupled with RAB’s dedication to client relationships and performance, keeps the company ahead in an otherwise competitive market.
“In my business, just like everyone else’s, people want everything for less,” Metz explains. By reaching for a higher level of customer satisfaction, RAB has flourished where other companies have faltered.
Keeping an edge with clients has helped RAB succeed over the past ten years. One of the ways RAB has found major success with big-name clients is product development. “We’re able to help these big companies maintain an edge with door-to-door sales,” says Metz. “We’ve also had projects that we’ve come in and fixed, just to help save companies and pull them out of a potential issue.”

A strong team
Although the company reaches nationwide, RAB is headquartered in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Employing approximately 300 workers, Metz points to his crews as one of his biggest sources of pride at RAB.
“They really are the face of the company,” he explains. “It’s the guys in the field who really make the business happen.”
Metz crews’ performance on the job proves to be solid evidence of RAB’s success in the past 10 years. “The great guys that we have really make our company A+,” Metz says proudly.
The RAB team’s ability to build quality relationships with clients has been integral to RAB’s success. As a company that was founded through an industry demand for a higher level of client treatment, Metz is aware that one of RAB’s top selling points is its dedicated workers.
“My manpower is our biggest expense, but biggest asset, as well,” Metz continues. “Our crews are hardworking and our core group of guys has been absolutely solid.”
RAB finds success with its team, just like with its clients, through having built a strong relationship foundation. Metz sees the company’s continued success as stemming from long-term relationships with its team and suppliers. With a constant workflow coming in, RAB’s employees only gain more experience and stronger reputations.
Sailing through the economic recession was easy for RAB. “We were solid,” explains Metz. “The telecom industry at that point was rather recession proof – people needed the Internet to look for jobs.”
With a constant influx of new projects and clients, RAB was able to stay ahead of the downturn and continue steadily growing as the telecom business boomed.
Looking ahead, Metz sees a future where RAB will continue to expand and take on new business.
