Located in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, NYCO is a mechanical insulation contracting company that serves commercial and industrial markets. NYCO’s commercial and industrial mechanical insulation services allow its clients to reduce energy costs, reduce temperatures and reduce noise levels while enhancing process performance and personnel safety. Piping insulation services utilize both heat- and cold-resistant insulation materials to cover all varieties of piping attached to equipment and fixtures. NYCO also provides indoor and outdoor duct insulation for both HVAC duct and fire-rated grease duct.

Ensuring customer satisfaction

Through a combination of operational research and practical development, NYCO utilizes the principles of lean construction in order to reduce price and improve the efficiency of delivery for its customers. “We understand the challenges and complexities involved in both new construction projects and facilities maintenance,” says Fredlund. “In order to cater to all planning and scheduling needs, we utilize an expansive work force and stringent quality control measures to ensure each project is completed on time and on budget.”

In addition to installation, NYCO operates a 24/7 service department for all of its clients. In a niche industry such as mechanical insulation, NYCO is unique in possessing the equipment and expertise to provide 24-hour service. “Having capable employees with a high level of planning ability sets us apart from the competition,” notes Fredlund.

Many of NYCO’s customers are found in the health care industry. The company has participated in construction projects providing insulation services to some of the top hospitals in the Minneapolis and St. Paul metropolitan area.

In the education sector, NYCO often works with numerous Minnesota colleges and universities such as the University of Minnesota, the University of St. Thomas, Macalester College and Carleton College. Working in higher education institutions allows NYCO to demonstrate its quality work and professionalism on the jobsite to the future professionals and leaders of the country. “Our methods are always as discreet as possible ensuring not to disrupt the lives of teachers and students as they go about their day on these busy campuses,” says Fredlund. “We plan to continue our longstanding tradition of providing quality insulation services to facilities of higher learning throughout the Midwest.” Other industries served include power generation, manufacturing, food processing, hospitality, oil and gas, data centers, retail, office complexes, and multifamily residential.

Measuring success

While most businesses ultimately gauge success by the bottom line, many also view other contributing factors as the lifeblood of a company. NYCO considers its customer retention one of the biggest measures of success for the company. In an industry where reputation and repeat business is crucial, NYCO has built strong customer satisfaction thanks to the company following through with every job. “Customer retention and growth of the company are the most important factors,” says Fredlund. “If you’re not growing, then you are losing ground. Along with that, we have a specific value set to guide our decisions day to day, which includes safety, integrity, continuous improvement teamwork, and customer satisfaction.”

The teamwork aspect displayed at NYCO is what gives Fredlund the biggest sense of pride about his company. The opportunity for collaboration on every jobsite allows Fredlund and his team to display the company’s expertise every day. “I enjoy interacting with the team as well as customers,” he says. “When you are awarded a job there is no better feeling than completing it on time and on budget and living up to your expectations. I take pride in proving each time why we are the best.”

Continued growth and geographical expansion is what Fredlund sees in the near future for NYCO. The company is looking to grow throughout the region and add offices and sites all through the Midwest. “There’s really nothing holding us back,” says Fredlund. “We’ll be looking to add customers throughout the Midwest.”

As NYCO expands, the company will maintain its value set of integrity, safety, continuous improvement, teamwork and customer satisfaction. While these values have generated success for the company, Fredlund and his team will continue to utilize these values to maintain current relationships and establish new ones as NYCO Inc. grows throughout the Midwest.
