Molding a solid reputation and building repeat business

Since 1994, NAPCO Precast LLC (NAPCO) has delivered the full package in high-quality architectural and structural precast and pre-stressed concrete building components. The San Antonio-based company offers complete in-house concept development, design and engineering backed by industry-leading draftsmen and engineers, state-of-the-art manufacturing, delivery and hauling, erection and project management backed by quality control and safety.

“We’re full service in what we do,” shares Alvaro Irragori, director of business development at NAPCO.

Serving the commercial, industrial, institutional and high-density multifamily sectors in south-central Texas, NAPCO has built a trusted reputation over the past 20 years. “We understand that it takes a long time to build a reputation and it only takes a moment to destroy it,” adds Irragori.

NAPCO has been building a referral-based business since 1994 when Irragori’s father started the company. “We’ve been around since 1994,” explains Irragori. “When my father passed away we sold the company to a larger firm before the economy started to tank, but we’ve been doing business in this area for 20 years now. I’ve been in this industry practically all my life. I helped my father throughout high school and college but started working full time in 1986.”

Creating a niche market

Since 2005, NAPCO has maintained a strong presence in the multifamily market. “We started doing this when no one else was going after it,” details Irragori. “We come in and work with developers, architects and engineers rather than just general contractors and that’s how we started off. We’re always working to meet their needs and collaborate on design work. We created this niche when there wasn’t really a market.”

Today, NAPCO continues to serve the multifamily market, mainly by delivering parking structures in support of residential development. “We’ve also done football stadiums, research facilities and office buildings,” notes Irragori.

The company’s skilled 250-person team is based in San Antonio; however, NAPCO covers nearly the full expanse of the state. “We serve most major markets, from Dallas to Houston and central and south Texas,” says Irragori. “We’ll also edge into Louisiana, if necessary.”

NAPCO produces high-quality architectural and structural precast, pre-stressed concrete components from double tees and IT beams and L beams to columns and pilasters, spandrels, fire-rated and insulated walls, ramp walls and vista walls, stairs and stadium risers and other architectural concrete products. “We also provide architectural finishes on exterior columns, walls and spandrels to provide low-maintenance, aesthetically-appealing design,” adds Irragori.

All-star sports venue delivery

As the saying goes, everything is bigger in Texas; therefore, NAPCO delivers major institutional arenas and stadiums on a Texas-sized scale. From design and concept to permitting, approval and project completion, NAPCO is there every step of the way. This integrated, full-service approach has landed the company some sizable projects throughout the region.

NAPCO completed precast and pre-stressed concrete work for the University of North Texas (UNT) Apogee Stadium, the centerpiece of UNT’s recently developed Mean Green Village. The facility encompasses most of the academic, training and competition facilities for UNT’s nearly 400 student-athletes. With a capacity of 31,000, the stadium features 21 luxury suites, 750 club seats, banquet space and a team spirit apparel store.

At Texas State University’s (TSU) Bobcat stadium, NAPCO not only produced the risers, raker beams, slabs, stairs and interior walls, the company also supplied the columns, box beams, brick veneer panels and architectural sand-blasted panels for the major development.

Aside from a range of large-scale athletic venues Irragori adds that NAPCOs health care sector is picking up as the area attracts more medical research facilities. “The government is funding a hub of new research and development,” he reveals. “We recently worked with G-Con, a bio manufacturing designer and contractor, at a new research facility.”

No matter the sector, facility or client, NAPCO focuses on customer service and satisfaction. “Those are our biggest measures of success,” adds Todd Davidson, president of NAPCO. “Our team really makes the difference. We have a lot of good people out there trying to do the right thing every day.”

It is evident that Irragori loves what he does, and the team he works with. “That makes for a great atmosphere and I go to work every day thinking I really want to work with these people; that doesn’t happen in a lot of places,” he says.

Despite a sluggish economy, NAPCO’s trusted team and reputation continue to win over new and repeat clients. “We’ve learned to live on tight margins and to live more frugally, but it’s kind of a good thing because you learn to squeeze pennies where you normally would have forgotten,” shares Irragori. “We continue to land a number of repeat jobs with the same owner or developer or by referral, from owner to general contractor or an architect talking to another architect. It takes a long time to build a reputation that lasts and we’re working to do that every day.”

Irragori projects steady growth in NAPCO’s near future. “I don’t see the economy exploding, but there will be growth and growth in new areas,” he ensures. For the full-package in quality architectural and structural precast and pre-stressed concrete, NAPCO Precast LLC remains a go-to in south-central Texas.
