Master Construction & Engineering Inc. (Master) was established by Jane and Don Weempe in 1987 and has been serving the Dallas-Ft. Worth and surrounding areas since. Years later, Master remains operating under the same dedicated leadership, with the staff collectively acquiring over 100 years of experience. Furthermore, Master is recognized as one of North Texas’ most respected group of professionals who specialize in concrete construction repair and site work.

The company delivers projects from conception to completion, including design, engineering, permitting and construction. Additionally, Dallas-based Master serves as both a prime contractor, as well as a subcontractor, depending on the scope for projects in the Dallas Metroplex area; however, the team will travel when needed.

The highly skilled team of 40 remains up to date on the industry’s current requirements of ADA and Texas Accessibility Standards (TAS). To ensure full satisfaction, the company is also fully insured and bonded for clients’ protection. The Master team does all it can to deliver quality results on time and within budget, always using the highest quality materials to ensure projects are both aesthetically pleasing and structurally sound.

The team’s niche is in concrete and asphalt work. “We enjoy creating plans and repair solutions and designs for clients,” says Don Weempe, PE and president of Master. “I am an expert in the business, and I think that sets the standard for the company.”

The Master team offers a wide variety of services, including pavement construction, concrete pavement repairs, asphalt repairs and overlays, concrete crack and joint sealing, as well as concrete construction, structural concrete repair, epoxy injection, bearing pads, cement lime stabilization, A.D.A., sitework, drainage improvements, foundation repairs and more.

It is evident that Weempe and his team strive for perfection on every project Master pursues. “One of my biggest goals is to have my firm be the experts in concrete repair,” says Weempe. “With extensive training, it is possible; I want my people smarter than the others in the industry, and I want to exceed customers’ expectations.”

Above and beyond

Training does not end with the skillset at Master, though. The company is part of the Sub-Contractors Association of the MetroPlex (SAM). According to Weempe, the association’s monthly programs of major industry issues and being able to network with others in the area are why Master remains involved with SAM.

The company’s advanced capabilities allow the team to tackle a wide variety of notable projects. In 2013 the team performed foundation repair on a historical church that was over 100 years old: the St. Paul Methodist Church, located in downtown Dallas in the Arts District. The original building was construction in 1921 and has been designated by the city of Dallas as a historic landmark. The capable Master team embraced the restoration of the historic church with open arms. Master underpinned the foundation of the church as a subcontractor to Pecos Construction on the project. The company also performed the construction of the elevator shaft, construction of the elevator’s foundation and pier haunch.

The team truly runs the gamut. Master has been working with the American Airlines Center Campus at its headquarters for over two years, providing concrete services. For the Texas State Fair the team performed the construction of new ramps, foundation work, as well as structural concrete. The company even has an upcoming project for Coca Cola’s plant in Abilene, Texas.

Master also worked as a subcontractor on the East Plaza reflecting pool at the Dallas Cowboys stadium. The company’s scope of work included excavation, forming and placing the concrete for the world-renowned facility.

Because Master is set to such high standards, the company rarely subcontracts out work. Therefore, the Master team performs the majority of services in-house, ensuring the highest standard across the board.

Future growth

It is evident Master has made its mark, and Weempe shows no signs of slowing down. “I would like to increase our revenue in 2015,” he details. “The labor market is tough, but I have faith.”

As far as the economy as a whole, Weempe has no doubts. “We’re booming,” he continues. “We have always had plenty of work.”

Perhaps Master Construction & Engineering Inc.’s lack of feeling the downturn, as others in the industry did, is a result of the persistent, high-quality work the team delivers.
