Martineau Electric Inc.

Efficiency: a key factor in the Northeast

Founded by Ray Martineau in 1984 and incorporated in 1987, Martineau Electric Inc. has developed into a leadiMartineau Electric Inc.ng electrical contractor in the Northeast. Located in Dover, New Hampshire, Martineau Electric performs design-build projects in the commercial and industrial sectors.

The ability to respond quickly and handle many fast-track projects has created a long list of repeat customers for Martineau Electric. The company has established a solid network of general contractors that the company often works with. “We also do a lot of private work,” says Martineau. “It’s often that a private owner will ask us to work with their general contractor.”

The geographical footprint of Martineau Electric extends within an hour’s radius of Dover, New Hampshire. While the company generally does not have to travel too far to find work, Martineau Electric concentrates on the seacoast area.

Quality meets efficiency

Over the past 18 months, Martineau Electric has completed several large-scale projects totaling over 500,000 square feet at Pease International Tradeport in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Major projects that were included in the Tradeport involved a corporate office for Sprague Energy, HighLiner Foods and Sig Sauer. These design-build jobs included providing electrical services for office space with LED lighting and energy controls. “The several projects we did at Pease International Tradeport were very significant because approximately 10,000 people work there and the Tradeport fuels the local economy,” says Martineau.

Martineau Electric has received recognition for the work it has done. In 2010, the company announced its involvement in three construction projects that garnered prestigious awards from the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Association. The projects included the Martineau Electric Inc.Wentworth Douglas Hospital in Dover, Weston Solutions Inc. in Concord and Centrix Bank and 5th Street Apartments in Dover.

At the Wentworth Douglass Hospital, Martineau Electric worked on a three-year project for the company involving the construction of a brand-new power plant for the facility. Included in the infrastructure were three 1.5 megawatt distribution substations, installation of new 15kv switchgear and 2.5 megawatts of emergency backup generators.

With the Weston Solutions job, Martineau Electric had the opportunity to work with general contractor PROCON Construction on a LEED Gold-certified project. The facility was a two-story building consisting of 21,000 square feet with geothermal heating and cooling and a Green Grid roofing system. Martineau Electric installed a daylight harvesting lighting system, high-efficiency lighting and occupancy sensors and dark sky compliant exterior lighting. The project won the 2010 ABC New Hampshire/Vermont Excellence in Design-Build and Sustainable Design Award.

A strong reputation

The reputation that Martineau Electric has established has not only built a list of repeat customers, but was also a major factor in the company surviving the last economic downturn. “We’ve been very fortunate,” says Martineau. “Whenever I think we might have to start looking for work the phone rings. Our quick reaction time is a major factor in that. When someone needs a big job done quickly we usually get a crack at it.”

In addition to the bottom line and repeat business, Martineau has a strong employee retention rate, which is an important factor in the measurement of the success of his company. “I have four people in my front office who have been with me for 25-Martineau Electricplus years,” says Martineau. “I also have workers in the field that have been with me for a considerable amount of time. It all comes down to consistency.”

Martineau Electric has many long-term partners, including insurance companies, suppliers and subcontractors. These long-term relationships strengthen our ability to provide our customers with the solid team necessary for the final product,” says Martineau. “Safety is also a major part of our day-to-day operation.”

As the company continues to progress and stay current with technology, Martineau plans to maintain training to ensure that the quality of work remains high. “We move and react faster than anyone around us,” says Martineau. “I know that my employees have the same philosophy that I do and so I see the company continuing on with the same people for a long time.”

While the company remains a leader in the industry, Martineau Electric Inc. will continue to build upon its relationships and reputation.
