Magill Construction Company Inc.

Bringing quality construction and customer satisfaction to Wisconsin for over 60 years

Founded in 1953, Magill Construction Company Inc. (Magill Construction) is a third generation run construction management AND general contracting firm in the commercial, industrial, retail, manufacturing, educational, religious and health care fields. Celebrating 60 years of business in 2013, the company is based out of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, and completes projects across the state.

A family business from the start, Magill Construction is now transitioning to new, third generation owners Matt Magill, Mike Magill and Dan VonRueden. Taking over the company from his father, Kirk Magill, Matt takes great pride in being a part of his family’s business.

“Getting to work with family every day is the icing on the cake,” Matt says. “We take great pride in having been given the opportunity to carry on the family business.”

Magill Construction has built a reputation as a hardworking, results-focused firm, which takes its customers’ satisfaction seriously.

“We’re all about building relationships,” explains Matt. “It’s what we value above all else. We build on trust, and on meeting, and exceeding, expectations set by our clients and ourselves.”

The company knows the importance of leaving its customers happy. “Referrals, word of mouth and reputation are very important in our industry,” Matt says. “Those are things that are earned through hard work and trust,” Matt continues.

Magill Construction CompanyProject-focused

With numerous projects across the commercial, industrial, retail, manufacturing, educational, religious and health care fields, Magill Construction found a niche as a construction management and general contracting firm. Employing approximately 30 people, the company has a variety of local, as well as state wide, clients that regularly seek out its services.

In 2014, Magill Construction began a design-build project for St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Elkhorn. Expected to reach completion in December, the project is a 14,500-square-foot addition to the preexisting church. The completed construction will consist of new office and administrative space, additional gathering areas and meeting rooms, as well as new toilet facilities to meet the needs of disabled parishioners.

An upcoming project for Magill Construction is a 50,000-square-foot addition to Precision Plus, a manufacturing facility for precision turned components in Elkhorn. Specializing in Swiss-type turning, Precision Plus first hired Magill Construction in 1995 to complete its original building. Currently in its final phases of design, Magill Construction expects to begin construction in March 2015.

Located directly in front of a lake, Magill Construction has been designing plans for a geothermal HVAC system to run in Precision Plus’s new addition. “A bit of a green-type build,” says Matt.

With Mercy Healthcare as one of Magill Construction’s main clients, the company has built a relationship that continues to bring repeat business almost yearly. “We’re always doing work for Mercy Hospital -additions, remodels,” explains Matt. “Like any hospital nowadays they’re constantly remodeling and adding on.”

In September 2014, Magill Construction completed work on an ambulance addition for Mercy. The 6,000-square-foot addition includes a new garage and support spaces for the hospital.

Magill Construction’s repeat clients are a testament to how well the company performs under any condition. “Our employees, subcontractors and suppliers are able to adapt to our client’s needs,” Matt explains. “Especially when it comes to how the projects need to be constructed to ensure their business operations are not interrupted. Oftentimes that means constructing projects while they’re still in daily operation.”

With a customer like Mercy Healthcare, Magill Construction has to be capable of building while the hospital continues to operate, a challenge regular partnerships prove to have overcome.

Changing hands

As the company transitions to its new ownership, Matt is excited to take on the sales role that his father occupied for many years. “I love going out into the field, meeting clients, putting my hand in their hand and starting to build those relationships,” he says. “That’s my real passion, to meet these current clients and future clients.”

Matt’s desire to continue forging the strong relationships that brought Magill Construction to its height ensures the company will continue to flourish.

Magill Construction’s reputation for client-focused relationships has not only helped it gain new customers but maintain those that return again and again. Matt enjoys a role in the company where he can repeatedly return to former clients and continue the partnership.

“Continuingly going back months and years later and seeing how they’re doing, keeping that relationship going – that goes beyond a business relationship,” he says proudly. “It’s really outstanding.”

Looking ahead, Matt hopes to see Magill Construction continue on its same path, working on increasing efficiency, productivity and constantly improving. As more businesses are bouncing back from the recession, being able to take part in their growth is something he considers an honor for the company. With a reputation for excellence and a strong client base, Magill Construction Company Inc. will continue to flourish alongside clients.
