Island International Exterior Fabricators LLC (Island International), a division of the Island Companies, is a privately-owned -and operated New York-based firm specializing in cladding technologies. Island International focuses on providing the building industry with architecturally-sound, performance-driven, customized structural envelopes with extensive diversity in various applications.

Parent company Island Companies has been serving the Northeast for over 40 years, building a trusted reputation over the years in its capability to perform a wide range of trades and services. Island Companies provides spray-on fireproofing and fire-resistive applications from lath, plaster and drywall to spray fireproofing and prefabricated exterior wall systems.

Island International was founded in 2000 as a building envelope and cladding-specific contractor. The company’s headquarters are based in Long Island in Calverton, N.Y., though Island International also has satellite offices throughout New England; in Pawtucket, R.I, and Boston. The firm employs an average of over 400 full-time personnel, including engineers, drafters, project managers, purchasers, superintendents and trades people skilled in fabrication.

Specializing in Exteriors

Island International performs fabrication work from six clear-span, large-volume structures situated on a combined 30-acre site. The buildings, which were formerly occupied by the U.S. Navy and Grumman Aircraft Engineering, consist of over 250,000 square feet of indoor, climate-controlled space. The facility allows the company to operate year-round, in any weather. The location also features an active aircraft runway.

The team at Island International prides itself on being a fully self-sustained organization, equipped with all of the in-house design and engineering capabilities needed to perform highly-technical jobs. As well as production capacity, the company has state-of-the-art fabrication equipment, facilities and the financial means to complete large-scale projects.

“We self-perform everything from engineering to installation and everything in between,” shares Amanda Vega, director of marketing and public relations at Island International.

Getting Technical

Island International’s cladding technologies are specifically designed for adaptability, sustainability and superior performance over many years. The company’s reputation for technical excellence has landed Island International many high-profile jobs, from the 9/11 memorial in New York City to residential buildings across the New York metropolitan area.

In addition, Island International has worked with some big-name clients, including both Forest City Ratner and Two Trees Development. The company’s wide range of projects include: hotels, casinos, low- and high-rise towers, heath care facilities, sports complexes, retail venues, mixed-use developments, as well as reaching both the public and private sectors.

With such an extensive client list, it is evident that the team at Island International offers a vast amount of expertise. The company offers building envelope systems, including: aluminum plate and cladding, terra cotta cladding, titanium, copper, zinc, pressed and profiled metals, perforated metals, natural stone cladding, high-performance concrete, cast stone, EIFS and stucco finishes and numerous additional finishes.

The team’s level of know-how has ensured Island International has made its mark throughout New York City and the surrounding neighborhoods. On the Renaissance Marriot Hotel in Brooklyn, N.Y., the Island International team performed aluminum plate and composite cladding, along with EIFS stucco finishes and granite and limestone cladding.

The company was also one of the few chosen to work on the 9/11 memorial museum in Manhattan. “We fabricated and installed stainless steel clad panels,” details Vega.

The company has also completed various residential projects. For the Via Verde located in the Bronx, the Island International team utilized eight different finish materials on the facade. “We’ve also recently completed Clinton Park,” adds Vega. “We fabricated composite aluminum rain screen panels. The last phase of the 35-story residential tower was installed in just 35 days.”

According to Vega, the Clinton Park project included a fully unitized gasketed exterior wall system, caulkless technology, aluminum clad and a high-performance outboard insulated, pressure equalized rain screen.

The company’s continued commitment to excellent, performance-driven panels and sustainable cladding technologies has made Island International one of North America’s leading specialists in exterior fabrication systems. Island Companies’ association has allowed Island International to specialize and develop products targeted to dependability and longevity. Island International Exterior Fabricators LLC continues to lead the fabrication industry through expertise and professionalism.
