Business partners Wayne Odachowski and John Ellis founded Infinity Restoration Inc. (Infinity) in 2007. As disaster reconstruction and remediation specialists, Odachowski and Ellis established an initial team of 15 to operate out of a single location in Crofton, Md., to mitigate commercial and residential damages from floods, fires and other destructive forces.
“We started with reconstruction and evolved into a full-service restoration company a few years later,” explains Odachowski. “We are very focused, and we don’t do any other construction work. We’re solely an insurance reconstruction company.”
Odachowski has been in the disaster clean-up business for over a decade. “I earned a degree at the University of Maryland and worked in disaster-related technology,” he explains.
Odachowski is not alone in his proficiency. Both Odachowski and Ellis had previous involvement with Disaster Kleenup International (DKI) before founding Infinity, which provided a great foundation for the new entity.
The Infinity staff is industry certified, and the founders are also involved in several organizations that support the clean-up industry. Odachowski and Ellis value and reinforce Infinity’s relationships within the restoration industry, including those with associations such as Crawford Contractor Connection, Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International, The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC), as well as many others. These connections have helped Infinity establish business relationships with other contractors, property managers and national insurers alike.
Not Just Spring Cleaning/strong>
The company’s ties do not stop there. Infinity serves the greater Baltimore, Md., and Washington, D.C., areas with the team’s admired efforts. Infinity supervises dozens of projects at a time, with six or seven project managers working in the field as well as in the office with subcontractors.
While reconstruction projects utilize subcontractors, the mitigation side is entirely self-performed. “On the reconstruction side, we are acting as the general contractor,” explains Odachowski. “We have estimators that inspection and scope the required work and our project managers who are superintendents of the reconstruction projects.”
The team closely manages full restorations down to the finest details, ensuring Infinity’s portion of each project is flawless. “We’re strictly looking at a clean building ready to go,” says Odachowski, discussing the final product of his team’s efforts. Many contractors in the industry perform similar services, but Infinity stands out with strong management and decades of experience in turning around properties after a disaster. With one area of concentration, the Infinity team is really able to take the reins.
According to the partners, Infinity’s revenue is equally split between commercial and residential work, which works out perfectly.
“However, in volume we do a lot more residential,” explains Odachowski. The team recently completed a large, high-end home during a six-month restoration project. “A lamp was knocked over onto a sofa and there was severe fire damage,” says Odachowski. Infinity project managers and its team of contractors met the challenge of restoring the historical property to its prior state, leaving both the homeowners and the insurance company beyond satisfied.
One of the company’s most interesting projects to date is a nearly full reconstruction of a religious property in Silver Spring, Md. Tragically the structure caught fire during a service in late 2009. Improperly extinguished ceremonial materials were placed in a closet used for incense and ash storage, catching fire to its contents and quickly the rest of the building. Damages were estimated at over $800,000 and sanctuary and living quarters were destroyed. “Everything had to be rebuilt,” explains Odachowski. “The entire project took about 12 months.”
Equipment and Resources
Infinity’s subcontractors are both well equipped and experienced: a perfect combination. Many of Infinity’s contacts have been involved with the company’s projects for years, and have proven reliable to the general contractor, property owners and insurers. The contractors’ arsenal is packed with equipment to pump out water, deodorize homes, remove soot, and rehabilitate damaged belongings. Further along in the process, builders stabilize structures, clean and replace drywall and carpets, as well as keep the entire operation powered with generators until electricity can be reconnected.
A well-stocked fleet of company vehicles keeps the team on the go and prepared to handle just about anything. Infinity’s capabilities help the business to provide well-rounded and reliable service. “Our success isn’t entirely quantifiable by numbers,” says Odachowski. “Customer satisfaction is our number one indicator of a successful project. As long as the insurance carrier is happy and the property owner is happy, that’s all that really matters.”
The company has built a regional reputation for helpful, professional service. The team works with several insurance providers and has serviced hundreds of business owners and families in the surrounding area and beyond. “We’ve talked about expanding geographically,” explains Odachowski. “Maybe setting up offices in surrounding states will be an option. Nothing is set in stone. We don’t want to grow where we can’t effectively manage the business.”
Despite regional presence, Odachowski’s team still travels outside of the service area, especially in light of recent weather patterns that have rocked the East Coast. The company continues to build lasting partnerships with subcontractors, insurance companies and suppliers alike in order to provide top-notch commercial and residential restoration and mitigation services. Infinity Restoration Inc. is continuing sustained growth in a busy regional market.
