When Damien Hudson began building swimming pools directly out of high school, he noticed a void in the services he required to complete each job. “It was a struggle for years to find the fence supplies in a timely fashion,” says Hudson. “Eventually that’s why I decided to start the company.” Located in Waxhaw, North Carolina, Hudson Fence Supply has grown into a leading wholesale distributor providing quality fence products to contractors and builders throughout the Southeast.
A different level of quality
Hudson Fence specializes in providing fencing to both the residential and commercial markets. With more than 20 years in the fencing industry, Hudson provides an unmatched knowledge of fence products. “Our service is what sets us apart from the competition,” he says. “Our inventory is unmatched and our lead times on special orders are about half that of our competitors.” Hudson Fence serves areas as far north as Washington, D.C., ventures southwest to Texas and ships to 37 states.
The high-quality product and exceptional customer service that Hudson Fence provides has been the primary source for the company’s nationwide success. “We do some advertising but mostly rely on word-of-mouth,” says Hudson. “Our success has largely been based on our relationships with builders and developers.”
With the appearance of wrought iron and the benefits of maintenance-free aluminum, Hudson Fence products have been known to add value and character to any home. The company’s aluminum fencing is offered in five styles and in several heights. The operation also offers three picket configurations: standard picket, double picket and puppy picket. “Our powder coat finish is more durable than a painted or baked-on enamel finish,” Hudson explains. “Of course, it is also backed by our lifetime warranty.”
Hudson Fence’s residential aluminum fencing has been known as a perfect choice to surround pools and other water features of a home. Constructed from 6063-T5 aluminum, the product is rust resistant and its TGIC polyester powder coat finish withstands the moisture and chemicals found in a swimming pool environment.
Hudson Fence also offers a vinyl fencing product line for discerning homeowners, builders and commercial property owners. “All Hudson Fence products are long-lasting and low maintenance,” says Hudson. “They are specially engineered to retain their freshly-painted appearance for decades, are impervious to insects and moisture and will never rot, splinter or decay.” All Hudson Fence products are made in the U.S.”
A company on the move
Hudson Fence continues to grow and innovate within the industry. The company recently purchased multiple chain-link weaving machines, which will allow for the manufacture of chain-link fencing. Hudson Fence has also acquired a Drake Powder Coating system, which will allow the company to coat custom fences and gates for faster turnaround. “We’re always looking for new products and new methods of doing things,” says Hudson. “The relationships that we have established with suppliers have been a key factor to our success.”
In an industry where good help can be tough to find, Hudson has found that treating his employees well by offering a profit sharing program has been a payoff for the company. “Every month I give 20 percent of the profits back to the employees,” says Hudson. “My 80 percent is worth more than the 100 percent would be if I didn’t do that.”
For a relatively young company, Hudson Fence has seen tremendous growth. Since its inception the company’s sales have increased 40 percent annually. “We haven’t had to acquire new customers in more than a year,” says Hudson. “We’ve been able to continue to grow with the customers that we have.”
The relationships that Hudson Fence maintains with its customers and suppliers are one of the biggest measurements of success for the company. “I really enjoy what I do,” Hudson elaborates. “I don’t feel like I’m coming into a job every day. We have a good time. We treat our employees, vendors and customers all with the same level of respect and it creates a great work environment.” Hudson adds that witnessing his employees grow professionally and personally also gives him a great sense of pride.
While currently located in Waxhaw, Hudson Fence will be moving into a new facility located in Fort Mill, South Carolina, in January 2016. The new 70,000-square-foot manufacturing facility will allow Hudson Fence to better serve its clients by moving all of its manufacturing processes to one location. The new location will also include 50,000 square feet of land for a future addition to be built.
As the company moves into its new facility, the company will maintain service and quality as its top priority, which will propel Hudson Fence Supply into the future.
