Griffin & Wilson Stucco Inc.

South Florida's premier stucco and plaster specialist

From West Palm Beach to Vero Beach and the luxurious estates of Miami, no other professional stucco and plastering contractor delivers more high-end homes than Griffin & Wilson Stucco Inc. (GWS). As a loyal subcontractor known for fine stucco finishes, plastering and molding, GWS works for some of the country’s top national builders with an eye for fine details. “We have more market share in south Florida than anyone else in this business,” says Derrick Griffin, founder and owner of GWS.

Like father, like son

Griffin established GWS in 1992 with his partner Jim Wilson. “My father was a builder and I followed in his footsteps,” he shares. “I went to the University of Florida where I earned a degree in building construction and started building homes. After a few years, I got a job as a stucco subcontractor.”

Since opening GWS, Griffin has passed the family building tradition onto his son, Sean Griffin. The pair opened Griffin and Son Stucco Inc., which operates alongside GWS.

Today, GWS serves both the Atlantic and Gulf sides of south Florida. The company’s work is showcased from Fort Pierce to Jupiter Island, Lake Worth to Delray Beach, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Miami and beyond. While GWS focuses mainly on the state’s east coast, the firm has also completed work throughout Tampa, Fort Myers, Sarasota, Naples and Orlando to the west.

“We currently have 20 employees because we subcontract our stucco and plastering services; we’ll have several hundred in the field working on projects,” explains Griffin. “I’ve known some of our subcontractor employees for 20 years, they don’t exclusively work for us, but when they do, they do a fantastic job.”

Showcasing high-quality workmanship

Outstanding quality workmanship is what has attracted residential and commercial customers across Florida to GWS for more than two decades. GWS offers custom stucco and plaster, including hand-pulled solid stucco moldings or foam moldings with basecoat and mesh, as well as faux stone moldings that compliment cast-stone features and architectural veneer systems.

GWS also presents a number of finishes and textures to match any residential décor, from light to old-world texture, double-light texture and sand-float finish, the company delivers signature exteriors.

In addition to various finishes, GWS also stocks an array of architectural moldings that can be modified to suit the field conditions of any job. Moldings are often the focal point of a home or commercial building therefore not only their beauty, but durability is of utmost importance. Intricate cornice moldings, bands, windows surround and crowns are covered with fiberglass mesh and synthetic base coat for durable coverings. GWS also offers hand-pulled solid stucco moldings to match architectural drawings.

High-profile projects

With an array of in-house stucco, plaster and moldings at its disposal, GWS is sought out by some of south Florida’s biggest names. “In 2013, we finished the stucco and exterior plastering for the historic Vanderbilt Mansion in Palm Beach,” shares Griffin. “We’re extremely proud of our work here and the project is slated to be showcased in an upcoming edition of Architectural Digest.”

Also in Palm Beach, GWS is redoing the plaster on the Addison Mizner mansions. “Mizner is a famous architect and the town of Palm Beach wants to preserve and refurbish the 1920s buildings back to their original state,” explains Griffin.

From famous architects to famous athletes, GWS has had a hand in many high-profile projects in south Florida. “After two years of planning and construction, we just wrapped up the stucco for Michael Jordan’s $12.5 million home in Jupiter, Fla.,” says Griffin. “We’re also doing some large rental projects on the multifamily side – a series of three and four-story buildings with lots of detail work and hand-pulled moldings.”

With a trusted name, Griffin says GWS didn’t suffer quite as much as other regional contractors through the economic downturn. “We were doing around $45 million and the recession brought us down, but things are picking back up and we’re focusing on continuous expansion and an aggressive approach to obtaining more market share,” he assures. “We’ve certainly relied on our reputation, quality of work and the diversity in what we do.”

Since 1992, national builders have turned to GWS for reliable stucco, plaster and molding subcontracting that adds the finishing touch. After 22 years, Griffin & Wilson Stucco Inc. continues to dominate the market in south Florida, delivering expertise and a dependable solution for all things involving excellent exteriors.
