In 2012 Electrical Automation Services Inc. (EASI) was one of only 12 companies across the nation to achieve the prestigious Honeywell ACI Elite contractor status. This standing is only awarded to companies with advanced technical skill and true customer commitment; Honeywell ACI Elite contractors are the best of the best. EASI, a Maryland-based information systems developer, has earned this esteemed recognition due to over 27 years servicing six East Coast states.
EASI remains in founders Vicki and Al Pettie’s ownership today. Vicki, president of EASI, and Al, CEO of EASI, are proud of how far the company has come since it was founded in 1986.
The company employs approximately 80 professionals between its main Pasadena, Md., office and satellite office in Delaware. EASI mainly works in southern Pennsylvania, Delaware, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C.
Jeff Ashe, vice president of EASI, has been with the company for 10 years. Ashe is proud of where he has settled. “My previous employer didn’t care about customers and employees like EASI does,” recalls Ashe. “EASI was a good fit.”
In the People Business
Though normally hard to come by, honest efforts are engrained in all EASI employees. “At EASI we are driven by customer satisfaction,” stresses Ashe. “It’s not about our bottom line.” EASI is dedicated to being the service provider of choice through product excellence. The company’s emphasis is on being an innovative business partner, therefore providing valued services to customers.
EASI relies on its valuable, talented staff to self-perform all of its services. “Most of the time we self-perform 100 percent of work,” shares Ashe. “We try to do everything in house so we’re not relying on someone else. We’re a self-sufficient company.”
Additionally, EASI understands the importance of relationships with its clients and vendors. “Everything we do relies on our relationships with vendors and customers,” details Ashe. “We try to marry these relationships because they’re our most important business partners moving forward.”
Exceeding expectations is the standard at EASI. Effective, efficient service is backed by complete systems proposals, fully engineered and integrated systems, as well as complete turnkey installations by the professional staff, training assistance and full-service warranties. Central to EASI’s commitment is the selection and retention of the most qualified, capable employees and project team members to serve clients.
Brilliance through Product and Service
Because the company’s team is so well rounded, EASI operates as a product-independent service provider that matches the best technology to fit the customer’s needs. “We provide solutions,” explains Ashe. “We don’t sell widgets. We sell services.”
The company’s niche lies in fully turnkey controls integration systems, including HVAC/BAS/EMS maintenance, energy management systems and security. EASI also specializes in full dashboard installation. “We can enable a client to see all of their information from a remote site,” details Ashe.
According to Ashe, heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems account for 39 percent of the energy used in the United States’ commercial buildings. Consequently, almost any business has the potential to realize significant savings by improving the controls of such systems; this is where EASI showcases its presence. EASI provides solutions to make HVAC systems more efficient through sales, engineering, installation and service. Due to EASI’s well-reputed standing, the company partners with top industry vendors, such as Honeywell, Johnson Controls, Circon, Tridium and Voyant.
The company’s reputable client list has awarded the team many notably projects. One of the company’s most well-known clients is Under Armor, an athletic gear and equipment outfitter. EASI performed a complete rehaul of the Under Armor campus in Maryland, adding new controls and bringing the site together all on one system.
In 2011 EASI was awarded the Honeywell Building Control Systems U.S. Contractor of the Year Award due to its exceptional portfolio. The award was based on major projects, creative solutions and technical competency among many other standards.
EASI covers a wide project base. Recently, the company just completed over 100 schools with Pepco Energy Services. The $7 million, 18-month contract required EASI to build energy management and integration for the facilities.
As far as projects on the horizon, EASI is currently getting ready to perform HVAC and automations for about 180 sites. The company EASI is partnering with wants to go from 180 to 400 locations over the next 10 years, trusting EASI to complete a massive amount of work. “All of the projects we’ve done have been very successful, because we’re concerned with making sure the customer is fully satisfied and happy,” attributes Ashe.
The company refuses to sacrifice its quality standards so it can make an extra buck, even in rough economic times. EASI has turned down certain jobs during the recession. “We know what the job’s worth is and we sell it for a fair price,” explains Ashe. “We don’t want to put ourselves in a situation where we are spread too thin and customers aren’t happy. If we turn down a job, it’s because it just isn’t the right thing to do.”
Overall, Ashe believes the future looks promising for EASI. “Our company is growing; we have people who want to work here and customers that want to do business with us,” details Ashe. Electrical Automation Services Inc. has become an award-winning service provider of choice by focusing on customer satisfaction and quality service.
