Swimming pools and water features are hallmarks of South Florida living, and Dillon Pools Inc. (DPI) was founded in 2005 to combine the best in technology and construction management to deliver an aspirational end result to pool, spa and fountain construction. The company may only be seven years old, but DPI’s management team brings over 100 years of combined industry experience to every project, utilizing meticulous attention to detail and a high level of organization that have enabled DPI to establish a strong track record. From design consultations, construction and commissioning, DPI continues to prove itself a true premier company.

“We’re proud to be a second-generation pool builder with over 60 years of family experience,” says John L. Dillon, president and CEO of DPI. John learned the business from his father and DPI’s founder-in-spirit, John “Jack” L. Dillon Sr. The inspirational Jack relocated to Florida in 1953 and gradually worked his way through the industry from an estimator to design consultant. Jack eventually earned a reputation as one of the most respected estimating and design consultants in the pool industry, passing the torch to John after 42 years in the business.

Best in the Business

John joined the industry in 1989 and gradually amassed a portfolio of pool-building projects before starting DPI in 2005, leveraging his years of experience to assemble the best team of knowledgeable, passionate and talented professionals.

DPI headquarters are located in Miramar, Fla., which proved to be a strategically advantageous location as the city is equidistant from the Fort Lauderdale and Miami metropolitan areas. DPI serves residential, commercial and institutional clients as far north as Melbourne, Fla., along the state’s east coast, as north-central as Orlando, Fla., as far south as the Florida Keys, and even into the Caribbean islands on occasion.

DPI doesn’t limit itself to only building pools as the team’s expertise also translates well into the construction of water features, fountains, spas and entire aquatics facilities. During the sleepier times of the year DPI maintains roughly 25 professionals on staff, but the company can swell up to 100 professionals under the right conditions.

The extensive experience of DPI’s team is reflected in the company’s pursuit of the most advanced pool technologies and products. DPI is one of just three approved distributors in the state for Myrtha Pools, the most advanced modular, pre-engineered pool systems on the market. DPI is also one of a handful of distributors of Wave Loch Flowrider wave pools and surf machines and the only accredited builder in South Florida for Paddock Industries products, including stainless steel gutters and the Evacuator chloramines evacuation system.

The company maintains the appropriate licensing to serve as the general contractor on a project or as a specialized subcontractor, depending on the scope of the project. This is why DPI has built all sizes of pools and spas – from major multimillion-dollar aquatic centers to pools for condominiums, apartment buildings, hotels, country clubs and residential communities.

Making Waves

DPI’s flexibility and proven track record are part of the reason that the company has been able to stay busy throughout the economic downturn. Just as the housing markets slowed in 2008 DPI completed work on two pools for The Plaza on Brickell in Miami. The Brickell neighborhood is located just across the Miami River from the downtown area, and has gradually become South Florida’s major financial district.

The Plaza on Brickell consists of over 1,000 luxury condos and apartments spread across two towers standing at 43 and 56 stories respectively. A rooftop patio on the tenth floor connects the towers and also boasts a spa and two pools, one heated, and all were constructed by DPI.

In 2010 DPI wrapped up construction on a $4.5-million state-of-the-art Olympic-sized pool and aquatics center for Gulliver Preparatory School, one of South Florida’s most prestigious private schools. The new aquatics center is located at Gulliver Preparatory Campus, the school’s high-school campus in Pinecrest, Fla., which includes a 50-meter pool with 10 lanes and enough seating for 300 spectators. The center also includes a second-story viewing platform, separate lockers rooms – one for the home team and one for the visiting team – in addition to a fitness center and coaches’ offices.

Miami-based architecture firm Gili-McGraw Architects designed the aquatics center and the project earned DPI the esteemed 2010 Aquatics International Magazine Best of Aquatics Award. DPI also took home the 2010 Best of Miramar Award in Swimming Pool Construction that year, which it also took home in 2009 and 2011.

Deserving of its accolades, DPI’s specialized expertise in swimming pool and water feature construction sets the company apart from the competition. Backed by over 100 years of combined industry experience, Dillon Pools Inc. will focus on bringing its talents and technologies to every commercial and residential client, delivering a thoughtful, durable and beautiful end result every time.
