Ralph Dinwiddie founded DH Construction (DHC) in 1992 with the goal of repairing and restoring fire and/or water damaged buildings. The California-based company now has two locations in Sacramento and Chico, enabling the team to serve northern and central areas of the state 24 hours per day throughout the year.

The DHC team has been lauded by clients for its ability to repair and restore a building back to its original state. Given that 95 percent of the company’s business is due to fire and water damage, clients typically have experienced a devastating life event when working with DHC.

One family who used DHC to repair their Fair Oaks home writes, “We are so grateful we chose your company to aid us in turning what could have been a very stressful time into a most pleasant experience.” The family estimates more than 30 DHC employees helped complete the project.

In DHC’s mission statement, the company states, “We are a team of people dedicated to provide, develop and implement quality service.” The company recognizes a client needs more than just tradespeople to put their home or office building back together. Rather, a team of DHC employees is compiled to assist in completing the job and navigating paperwork involved. The company maintains a high level of communication with the property owner and insurance adjusters, as well as property managers and tenants in some cases.

“We take pride in helping you process the claim and restore your property to complete satisfaction,” says Dinwiddie, president of DHC. “Our emphasis is always on customer service. We understand the important details — material specifications and the scheduling — required to complete your job in a professional and timely manner.”

Disaster Knows No Bounds

DHC realizes fires can spark or water damage can happen at any hour of the day. Crews are available all day, every day to help. With more than 20 years experience in the field, DHC understands each disaster is unique, but has developed a tried process to help clients throughout the rebuilding process.

Unfortunately, because disaster can strike any time and sometimes too often, DHC always has a project on deck. Repair and restoration can range from personal homes, multifamily residences, offices and commercial buildings.

DHC has recently completed work in downtown Sacramento. The company was required to not only meet insurance requirements, but also operate under constraints of local historical associations when repairing buildings in old parts of the city.

The company is also willing to think outside the box when it comes to meeting historical or energy efficient traits, or even for means of completing a project. DHC was working on a Granite Bay home restoration and realized the driveway was too small for supplies to be delivered. The company helicoptered in necessary trusses to complete the project.

Sometimes, it’s not just about restoring the building to its original condition. For DHC its not just about getting the job finished, it is about helping property owners realize a dream. The company understands devastation after a disaster, but wants to help property owners turn a terrible event into something positive. The company will work with property owners to recreate space with a new vision.

A project DHC worked on in Davis models this aspect of the business. A married couple had lost their home to fire. The company came in to restore the home, build an addition and handle the situation with care, realizing the husband lost a valuable collection of old cars he worked to restore.

Attitude is Evident

DHC’s clients are often confused, disoriented and disheartened by a recent event. The company maintains a positive attitude from the moment a client contacts the office through the completion of the job and accompanying insurance paperwork.

This positive outlook has helped DHC grow throughout the years. This growth trend has happened despite a poor economy and the company’s inherent need to do as insurance companies say.

The company took the time to expand from Sacramento and open a small office in Chico. DHC and its management team want to continue slow growth, but want to do so carefully. Dinwiddie reports healthy, measurable growth is made easier by a team dedicated to the mission of DHC.

Whether it is minor fire or water damage or a complete repair, DHC is ready for the job. With ample experience and satisfied customers, DH Construction will continue to be the source in California for repair and restoration work.
