DACA Painting LLC

Partnering with General Contractors to Deliver Superior Results

DACA Painting LLC began in 1978, and throughout the last three-plus decades the company has continually demonstrated its leadership in providing customers with quality new construction painting and major structural repaint and lead abatement contracting services. The firm, headquartered in Atlanta, Ga., serves industrial and commercial businesses across the country from additional offices in Tennessee, Indiana and Florida. DACA plans to continue expanding these branches to better serve local target customers, as well as strategically support the company’s larger regional and national clients.
“Our goal is to have dynamic regional operations adapting to each area’s specific customer needs, while maintaining the core DACA service disciplines,” says Phil Roy, DACA chief operating officer. DACA recently hired Roy in order to take advantage of his understanding of general contractor needs and expectations, and to draw on his strengths gained from upper management leadership roles with Barton Malow and Skanska.
The company’s desire and ability to go above and beyond for the customer has served as the backbone of DACA’s operation since day one. According to the firm – one of only a handful of contractors in the country that have earned the Society of Protective Coatings (SSPC) QP1, QP2 and QS1 quality certifications – 95 percent of its customers are repeat customers, which the company attributes to its consistent quality of applications, superior employee safety program commitment, full range of painting and specialized coating services, and commitment to customer satisfaction. These clients contract with DACA primarily for major commercial, industrial and corporate re-imaging and fleet asset management projects.

Creating Long-term Clients
As set forth in its mission statement, there are sets of criteria by which the company measures its success. First, the firm works hard to ensure complete safety, health and environmental compliance, and it holds several dozen certifications to prove its comprehensive ability to deliver in every aspect. Second, DACA asserts that the goal of every project is to provide the type of insight and attention to detail at each step that can turn the customer into a long-term client. The firm achieves its’ high ratings for customer satisfaction through quality work and superior communication between all levels – from the project management team to the field operation manager, site supervisors and field employees.
“If our customers aren’t happy, we aren’t happy,” asserts Roy. “So we have to make sure that we hire only the best at every level and commit to lessons learned on each project and ongoing training and development efforts to stay at the top of our field.”
The company started in the Atlanta commercial market, and quickly acquired a wealth of experience providing turnkey solutions for any business’ interior and exterior painting and wall covering needs, whether in the healthcare, jail/detention, data center, hospitality, multi-family or office complex sectors. DACA now works closely with general contractors to create a coordinated scheduling with comprehensive scoping, budgeting and technical support, while offering conventional painting, specialty floor coatings, staining, waterproofing, fireproofing, and specialty ceiling applications.
For the industrial painting marketplace, DACA has assembled a team of professionals with extensive industry experience and a focus on delivering superior results with a select group of clients. With most larger contracting firms selecting the multi-craft bundled service approach, DACA has seen an opportunity to show the value of specialization in painting to outperform the competition. For the multi-craft model, painting is such a small part of the revenue model it tends to get lack of focus and quality of resources. DACA brings the value of specialization and the consistent performance and management systems of a larger organization with a lower cost basis and more personable approach to business for those in the large-scale power generation, automotive, chemical and refining, gas and pipeline, pulp and paper, food and beverage, pharmaceutical and manufacturing sectors.
Due to DACA’s experience working with industrial clients and major construction projects, the firm is specifically suited to work with GC’s to integrate with peripheral trades and deliver cost effectiveness, long-term quality, on-time schedule delivery and zero safety incidents. The firm also serves as a one-stop resource for putting together regional and national maintenance programs and facility upgrade programs. To complete such projects DACA has a sophisticated management system linked through the Internet so the client can track the progress of any annual maintenance program, major restoration requirement or upgrade.

Stadium-sized Ambition
With such a wide range of expertise, across three sectors, DACA has built an impressive portfolio during its 30 years in operation. It has worked on data centers, high bay ceilings and complex structures, storage tanks, hospitals, power plants, stadiums, government transportation centers, water treatment centers, as well as refineries and mills, among many other facilities. Some of its most known projects are stadiums and arenas, such as Turner Field (home of Major League Baseball’s Atlanta Braves), Gwinnett Braves Stadium, Auburn Arena and Bobby Dodd Stadium (where Georgia Tech’s football team plays).
The firm also recently finished work on a $350 million hospital in Tampa, Fla., for Brasfield and Gorrie, which involved strict Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) regulation compliance, as well as a variety of painting, wall covering and specialty finishes. Due to the sheer size of the project, it required a great amount of coordination between the management team and skilled craftsmen to complete.
According to Roy, DACA is focused on performing major projects that take advantage of the firm’s project management strengths, resource depth, complex project expertise and financial strength. “An example of this type project was our recent completion of the VW Automotive Plant in Chattanooga, Tenn.,” he says. “We performed everything from supporting field touch up of erected steel to specialized manufacturing equipment applications to high-end exterior siding coatings applications.”
DACA has successfully executed on a multitude of high-profile and visible projects over the years in a wide range of commercial, government and industrial markets, and despite the economy has successfully continued to grow the organization. It’s the commitment to focused management for each market segment coupled with localized regional operations geared to deliver on the long-standing company mission towards customer satisfaction that keeps the client happy, and DACA Painting LLC moving forward.
