Founded in 1999 by the father-son team of Robert and Jason Collins, Collins Construction has grown significantly from its humble beginnings in 1999. When Robert died in 2001, the young company dedicated its mission to his memory. In 2000, the company added Kurt Schaeuble to the team, who now serves as senior vice president. In 2008, Collins Construction moved from the headquarters it had outgrown and into a new and spacious office facility in Ormond Beach, Florida, which is equipped with the most modern equipment and latest technology.

While Collins Construction primarily serves Daytona, Jacksonville and Orlando, Florida, the company will venture out of its territory at the request of clients.” Sometimes we’ll go to places like Vero Beach and Lake City,” says Schaeuble. “We basically stay in the mid- North Florida area.”

Ahead of the game

The ability to perform with a high level of quality as well as meet the required schedule of each project has enabled Collins Construction to establish strong relationships with general contractors. This has resulted in a majority of the company’s revenue consisting of repeat business. “GC’s don’t want a subcontractor that makes excuses for not meeting a schedule,” says Schaeuble. “We take pride in being able to meet deadlines and come in within budget.”

Collins Construction serves a vast array of clients in multiple industries including health care, retail and educational. Recent projects have included EverBank Field, home to the Jacksonville Jaguars, as well as the indoor practice facility for the University of Florida. “The practice facility was very tough due to the tight schedule,” says Schaeuble. “It was also very rewarding to complete it on time.

Through all the projects that Collins Construction completes, Schaeuble finds that the most rewarding are when all parties involved gain a success story. “The best jobs are the ones that the general contractor and end user are satisfied with the end result and all the subcontractors meet their bugets,” he says. “It doesn’t matter if you make a lot of money on a job as long as the customer is completely satisfied.”

The subject of safety is paramount for Collins Construction. The company is dedicated to providing a safe work environment and insists that its employees follow the stringent rules set down by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration as well as any additional requirements of the customer. “Each superintendent and foreman takes full responsibility to execute all safety policies,” says Schaeuble. “Job site safety meetings are held weekly and involve all employees and subcontractors who are working under the direction of Collins Construction.”

A strong team

As senior vice president, Schaeuble is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Collins Construction. Overseeing the company’s human resource department, Schaeuble is heavily involved in the company’s overall strategic direction. Schaeuble earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Building Construction from the University of Florida in 1997 and began his career in the construction industry with a large general contracting firm in northeast Florida. In 2000, Schaeuble began working with Collins and his effective planning and communication skills were quickly recognized, which earned him a position with Collins Construction.
