What started out as a small air conditioning service company headquartered in an apartment in the Bronx, New York, has become The BP Group, a family of mechanical service and construction companies serving three states and a range of market sectors. The company expanded steadily throughout the years, moving to Greenpoint, New York, and later Glendale, New York, in order to accommodate growth. Today, the group includes BP Mechanical, the construction arm of the business, BP Air, the maintenance and service division, and most recently Legacy Insulation and Integrated Building Technologies.
The BP Group now employs more than 150 professionals between all divisions. The staff includes designers, installers, technicians and project managers among other experienced labor. A dedication to quality service, efficient installation and value-engineered end products keeps the staff operating toward a common goal.
Filling a need in the market
Matthew Dash, director of business development for The BP Group, has worked with the company for two years. He leverages his expertise to help the company build strategic growth and foster relationships with clients and partners. He takes great pride in his colleagues and credits their efforts for the company’s stability, even throughout the difficult recession in the construction industry of only a few years back.
“This company fought through it,” he explains. “The management team and everyone here put a tremendous amount of effort into maintaining our relationships and keeping up with changes in our industry. We took it one day at a time, focusing on operations and keeping up with technology that has advanced rapidly over the last decade.”
This continued evolution currently takes the form of two new additions to the business – Legacy Insulation and Integrated Building Technologies (IBT). “We launched these divisions just this year in order to integrate more services into our operations,” says Dash. “Whereas we used to sub out insulation, we can now do it ourselves. IBT deals more with interfaces, controls and analytics. This division makes the company more of a building optimization company. We have offered similar services in the past, but this type of analytics is new. We are using new technology, new programming and new software.”
This new technology is changing the game for value-engineered projects. Through cloud-based reporting software, these systems connect to a series of sensors in a building to pull data, which runs through software and is stored on the cloud. “These systems make it easy to read data and they cut down on maintenance costs by predicting failures before they happen by monitoring trends in feedback.”
Building value
The BP Group team continues to leverage leading technology to deliver high-value projects to a range of clients in the commercial market. Throughout the tri-state area, the integrated mechanical firm has tackled challenges in execution, logistical issues and innovation by utilizing an experienced staff, industry expertise and positive professional relationships with suppliers.
“Our recent work is diverse,” Dash explains. “We worked on the Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Plaza; we have worked for Time Warner at their offices; and we have completed work for the Brooklyn Navy Yard.” The scope of work has included long-term maintenance contracts, retrofits and new construction projects.
“One of our more high profile jobs has been the work we did on the One World Trade observation deck,” notes Dash. “We did all the HVAC and mechanical work there, including the deck, the restaurant and the mechanical rooms on those floors. The biggest challenges were mainly logistical. It took a lot of effort trying to coordinate efficiently to get everyone in there and get everything done on time. I’d say the project was difficult on a good day, between clearances, material coordination and check-ins.”
Despite the challenges his colleagues face on a day-to-day basis, Dash takes great pride in the team’s efficiency and professional performance on every site. “I work with some great people and despite its size – this company has an outstanding family atmosphere,” he says. “As we continue to grow and adopt new technology, they will continue to support our mission.”
The company has a well-deserved reputation for quality and service that makes it easy to build and maintain strong relationships and partnerships within the industry. Whether large new construction work or smaller, more consistent maintenance contracts, The BP Group applies hard work and personal attention to every project, reinforcing the team’s reliability and expertise in this sector of the construction market.
