S & W Construction Partners LP, better known as S & W Construction, has been performing excavation, masonry and field installation throughout the states Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana since 1981. Working primarily for convenience stores and fast food restaurants, S & W Construction has created a name for itself as an honest company that always delivers top of the line service to its customers.

A family business

Founded in 1984 by Sandra and Wayne Tennison, the business has stayed in the family since its inception. S & W Construction is now run by Bryan Tennison, Wayne’s son and current president.

Working in the industry since he was 18, Bryan knows his company like the back of his hand. “It’s all I have ever done,” he laughs. “I enjoy being here. We work with good people, and all the people we have here do what they are supposed to do; we don’t have too many headaches.”

S & W Construction considers its employees to truly be family and takes pride in the lack of employee turnover. “The people we employ have been trained here as how we want to be: a family type business,” Bryan explains. “We have a nice family atmosphere here. We make family first, and we handle the work one way or another.”

S & W Construction employs 85 people and has an office based in Burleson, Texas. Keeping a close-knit environment helps perpetuate the company’s goal to do right by its customer.

“We stand behind our work, get projects done on time and put a lot of care into what we do,” Bryan explains. “Our word is as good as gold. Everyone we work for knows that.”

Considering its booming success and repeat business, S & W Construction is clearly pleasing its customers.

Building client relationships

As a general contractor, S & W Construction self-performs excavation, masonry, concrete work and some field installation primarily for convenience stores. With additional work in fast food, shopping centers and hotels, S & W Construction is willing to branch out to please any customer that seeks its expertise.

In addition to construction, S & W Construction runs a dirt contracting business that connects them with other general contractors.

S & W Construction has clients returning regularly for its services, with several repeat clients in convenience stores, such as Race Trac and 7 Eleven.

The company recently completed a series of 12,000-square-foot Walmart stores, which are new, smaller versions of Walmarts geared for smaller towns. Containing a small pharmacy, the stores have the ability to order un-stocked products from larger volume Walmarts and have the item delivered in a day’s time.

S & W Construction’s efficient performance has led to repeat business with Walmart, which has continued to hire the company for jobs on supercenters and smaller volume stores alike.

Working with such major clients, S & W Construction looks to create close partnerships with its subcontractors to ensure its quality of work is maintained across the board. As the company self-performs 40 percent of its projects, hiring the right subcontractors is critical to S & W Construction’s success.

“We have a few good companies that stick around,” Bryan says, “but in construction there is more turnover than you want.” Using the same subcontractors repeatedly has helped S & W Construction overcome the industry’s major challenge to find workers.

Keeping a steady work flow

S & W Construction found great success during the lull brought to the construction industry by the economic downturn. With many competitors falling by the wayside, the company found steady work with clients wanting to build through the recession.

“For us, those years were some of our best years so far,” Bryan explains. “Our clients went into a building year, and we’ve had a great profit margin because of it.”

.Now that the industry has finally started to pick up again, S & W Construction has experienced even more growth.

The future looks bright for S & W Construction’s family business. With the expectation that the company will double in size in the coming years, Bryan looks forward to slow and steady growth staying in the family.

Keeping the business close to home has helped build S & W Construction into a company that sees repeat projects from major clients across Texas and the surrounding states. As it continues to grow, S & W Construction Partners LP will surely gather more projects and accolades from its loyal customer base.
