North Florida Field Services

On-time and On-budget Quality Repairs

Marti McCoy founded North Florida Field Services (NFFS) in 2007 as a construction services contractor for clients in the northern regions of the Sunshine State. “I started working for a construction company back in 2000,” McCoy explains. “After that, I worked for a construction supply company from 2004 to 2007. Things got slow and I got laid off there. With nothing else to do, I immediately started my own deal. We made it work, despite the challenges. We have been growing steadily, servicing our clients while maintaining strict pricing over our services and goods.”

NFFS offers a range of field services to a broad scope of potential clients. The company specializes in real estate-owned home repair, property preservation, maintenance and inspection of residential homes. McCoy and his crew have established a niche, securing foreclosed homes and increasing property values through repair, restoration and preservation.

The company strives to turn properties around and expedite their return to the market. This allows NFFS’ clients – which include insurance companies, banks, commercial property managers, facility maintenance and institutional investors – to have a better and faster return on investment.

The business has offices in Jacksonville, Pensacola, Tampa and Orlando, and will be opening another location in the Fort Lauderdale market. This allows NFFS to serve clients in-need across the state of Florida.

Leading Services

“As a field service company we cover any aspect a client might need in the field,” McCoy explains. “We have an in-house team that can perform a number of trades. We do HVAC, roofing, painting, drywall, floors, electrical, plumbing and carpentry among other services. We are the general contractor so we handle whole scope. If we can’t do it ourselves, we put together a team of contractors from throughout state of Florida. We all work together to complete every aspect of the job.”

NFFS has diverse capabilities with a team of 60 employees boasting longtime experience in a number of trades. The crew also works with a strong network of reliable vendors. “One thing that sets us apart from other contractors, is that most of our competitors will sub out almost all of their work,” McCoy explains. “We do a mix of both, with direct supervision over every job. Attention to detail and adherence to tight timelines are other factors that our clients appreciate. We have to move fast. Some of these projects last only a few days.”

Clients have come to rely on NFFS for a number of reasons. For starters, the team is passionate about turning properties around. McCoy and his team are available around the clock; the owner, himself, has answered calls after standard hours.

NFFS’ project managers work closely with clients to develop a clear vision and definitive goals for a building. The NFFS crew also utilizes the most recent technology and best practices in order to increase quality and efficiency in performance.

Managing Market Changes

With over a decade of experience in the industry, McCoy has made a strong impression in the construction market. “I grew up around construction,” he explains. “My dad was a carpenter and general tradesperson. When I was growing up, he was building houses. I started working in this industry full time in 2000.” NFFS is gaining momentum with McCoy’s strong insight into the construction business.

When McCoy started the company, he had $5,000 and a borrowed trailer. Today, NFFS is one of the fastest growing companies in the nation. The team made Inc. Magazine’s Inc. 500 Fastest Growing Private Companies list in 2013 at No. 238. In 2012, the company was the fastest growing business in northeast Florida.

The company continues to grow, although McCoy notes that there have been challenges along the way. “Financial capital has been the biggest obstacle,” he says. “We started with almost nothing and we have been working hard to get to a certain level. We have a great relationship with the bank BBVA Compass. Our major challenge now is getting good people. We’ve gone through some bad but all of our people here are very good. We are overcoming that obstacle quickly, but qualified employees are hard to find.”

As the team grows, McCoy is looking ahead to the continued evolution of his business. “There are a lot of different directions we can grow in,” he explains. “I feel there will always be a need for field services, logistically speaking. Our customers are taking on more responsibilities and need to have a reliable contractor to do this kind of work. We have formulated this business as a one-stop shop, so we will continue to do everything we can for our clients. We’ll definitely keep evolving.” In the coming years, North Florida Field Services will continue to grow, offering high-quality construction services throughout Florida.
